How hot does it get under there? I wanna paint my heat shield and my valve cover blue to go with the end plan for the car. Will 1200 degree F paint hold up? The valve cover is not my big worry, the heat shield is. The bolts are all rusted already and I don't wanna break 'em. I also don't want the paint burning off. Please help!

You should ask Bat Lord, If I'm not mistaken, before he got the headers, he had his exhaust plate painted blue to match his car.... Yo Bat, How well did that work?

1200° paint will hold up too well. What will happen is after putting it on and having your engine run for awhile, the paint color will fade and change to a different shade. If you want the exact color paint that you pick out, then you will need 2500°. As far as having your Hot PLate chromed, it's a small piece. Most shops will charge anywhere from $15-$60 for it. Look in your phone book under Metal Plating and you should be good to go.

The highest I've seen is 1500 degrees. Where can I get the 2500 stuff?

sup guys, yep I did it... it was fun to do, one of my first painting mods... 1200 will hold, that's what I used, I used DUPLICOLOR, after trying 3 different brands that was the best one... the biggest problem you will have with the hot plate is the BOLTS, no matter what, those will rust, and if not, they will leave a big ugly circle around them, which will in turn ruin your painted plate, this is one of the major reasons I went with CHROME ($40.00 bux), the chrome will hold, I had mine on for almost 1 year and no fading or anything, although I did clean it every week... but it held... :)

instead of painting it and then seeing circles around them, I would suggest chroming it...

Thanks everybody! I think I 'll make a run to the local autozone or Lowes and get paint. I think I'll get stainless steel of aluminum bolts to control the rust as well.

damn, you took the words out of my mouth... One thing that did stop the discolorization, was getting aluminum bolts or stainless steel, that's what I used with my CHROMED plate, and never had a problem with the rusting...

Only painted the spark cover and it looks awesome! The bolts on the heat shield were seized up ao i didn't mess w/ them. Also, I would have to unplug my o2 sensor and I'm not sure if that will screw things up.
