Painting interior...

3991 Views 59 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  Z_Spool
I've been seeing a lot of painted interiors lately, when painted, do you remove the part outside of the car and do it by itself, or tape parts of the car and carefully do it by hand inside the car. I know normally its a good idea to sand and prime, but I just spent an hour trying to remove my center fascia and the god damn AC controls won't come the **** off and its frustrating as hell.

Painted interiors most of the time look like ass. But if you want to do it.. here is what i've seen done:

Taped and newpaperEd off the windows and the rest of the interior to keep over spray away..

To take off the center facia completly..You have to take off the AC wires

I've probably had to do this 20 diff times.

Its not as easy as it looks, I couldn't get the dam AC controls off, but I had found that guide and had been using it.....maybe I'll just get the hyundai OEM metal fascia....I'm just so damn sick of the grey.
If you paint your interior in the car you might want to get a fan to draw the overspray out. (have it sucking air out of the interior, not blowing inward);):
best way to paint your interior is to not.
what is with everyone hate'n lately.....

anyways...best way to do it is take it out i've done it tons of times.....you dont need to prime the plastic.....ruff it up with some sand paper....then get some Krylon Fusion paint....bonds right to the plastic.....

just dont paint it red or yellow or something:dead:

paint it white to match the car

;):
I just hate seeing people who are frustrated with their painted interior down the road due to cracking/peeling.

but if you must do it. do it right and do it good. take all the peices you can out to paint. properly prep them.

flexible paint is needed I believe? otherwise it will be cracking and peeling in months.

most painted interiors i've seen have gone to the shits in a matter of months.

also colour choice is important too, don't get a colour that will absolutly kill your eyes with glare/reflection.

as for the climate control knobs.. use a rag on your hand and giver. (try not to resort to using whatever tool you see first as it's easy to hack it up)

I can't imagine white being too nice to the eyes! :O
You do know that interior temps reach 150 degrees farenhieght very easy in the summer. Chances are the paint you select will crack in less than a year. Hopefully I'm as wrong as my spelling, but I doubt it:surprised:
^^You are wrong......if it is a solid piece of plastic, it will not crack if properly done......another good option is Automotive touch-up paint....it has a flex-agent already in it for softer pieces of plastic that will bend.....aslong as the plastic is preped properly like cleaning and sanding it will be fine.....

i have never had the cracking or peeling issue;):

good luck man and ignore all the haters
I suggest you clean plastic with windex, sand, clean with windex, maybe wipe with some rubbing alcohol and then prime and then paint and finally clear it. I paint PVC this was been painted for 12 months now and no wear or scratches.
hey ozone... i know what your going through i had a problem taking the A.C out but i got it look...

there are 4 screws on the sides of your A.C that must come out, for you to get the middle off..

Thanks for the info, I saw the 4 screws but wasn't sure if I should mess with them till I can see everything on the rest of the face plate, that and I didn't have a screw driver small enough to fit back there coherantly. I'm still wondering weather or not I want to go through with it, I mean....today is payday, and those Hyundai Mettalic OEM Fascias do look pretty good, whats all of your takes on those fascias? Worth the money? How clean does it look?
hey orator.. i live close to that kid with the Lambo doors on the accent.. actually he is my best friend.. he help me get my accent..

TitanAccent04, his brother and i formed an accent club... you might see us driving together... same place same time.. 3 different cars...
I was gonna paint my interior, then i thought why they hell should i, i would find some guy to do it for me........6 months later i still havent bothered...lol i prob wont, but if you do it right it looks good.

Sindrome
I am also considering getting it proffessionally done, it would look nicer probably and might not cost me too much. I'll look into it, I'll post pics eventually of what ever route I do take, I just want a nicer looking interior.

On this note, what other things can I do to make my interior looking nicer, so far the things I have in mind are:

Vamps Lighting Kit
Blue LED for gauge's
Paint / Buy Hyundai OEM metal Fascia parts
Black and grey Racing seats or 2003 Hyundai Tiburon Black and Grey Cloth seats
Black floor mats
Small 6" Blue neon lights under seats for a nice dim interior glow

I've already done the whole sound system thing, I'm half way there (waiting on getting an extra amp and a nice small sub with kick, rockford fosgate p3 10" or alpine type R 10")

fiberglass interior looks better. Its all shiney.. not all rattle canned looking.

WTF!...DO NOT use windex....clean them with soap and water, then just water....get every chemical possible off of it....
I agree. In any painting I ever did, I just used a mild soap and water mixture making sure I rinsed it very well. I don't know that windex would do any harm but there are a lot of chemicals in there that may stick around and ruin the adhesiveness of the paint.
