ive heard about how the factory paint has been thin for some of the cars. i believe there was a thread about it awhile ago concerning the issue of the thin paint coat. the only problem i have had is that in a small section part of the paint has lost its luster. i took it to the hyundai location in my area and they said that it wasnt covered by the warranty, and so i would have to pay for it. it isnt noticeable, so im not too worried, considering i plan on getting a new paint job in the future.

I have a few similar small patches, as well. I took it in and asked about it, and the dealer (not the same one I purchased the car at) said it looked like the paint had "settled" and in some areas the clear coat had been stretched thin. With washings and rain and exposure to the elements, the very thin areas of the clear coat had worn off. The colour is still there, but it has that dull, oxidized look to it.

I also plan on getting a new paint job in the relatively near future, which is why I haven't fixed it yet.

Price on paint jobs depend on a lot of things.
#1 how good the place is
#2 If you are getting a color change do you want it in the door jams and under the hood etc.
#3 The paint used

Your best bet is to shop around for prices in your area and to look at the work the shops have done.

The friggin paint is thin. My 99 Cobalt Blue Tibby has spots where the paint has peeled off (2-3 spots about quarter sized). Also, the door sometimes hits carboard along the garage wall and there's a blue streak on the cardboard where it hits.

Took it in to the dealer and they said it was bird ****.... wtf is up with that ?! We have a couple more dealers in the area, so will try a couple more before I get too nasty.

Would be curious about the ballpark for a decent paintjob. A nice yellow or orange would be sweet
