I got the B&M, good shifter...solid billet, good throw. The only thing is there is a little inaccuracy going from 2nd to 3rd which is maginfied by the short shifter...just got to get used to it...other than that, very satisfied with it...feels much more solid than the stock one.

I had a problem going from 2nd to 3rd on my sr, but not my B&M.

Pull the cover around your shifter up and look inside. If it looks like the one in the pic above, then you need the 2001 shifter. If it is a black base plate, you will need the 97-2000 shifter.

mister694... if I'm not mistaken, anything produced on or after October is considered the next year's production. Hope that helps.

Reid, thank god mine doesn't look like the pic, but when did they begin to use that set-up, b/c it is a 2001???

Yeah, the 2001 Tibs and Elantras *should* have that style shifter. I know the 2001 Elantra's do, and some of the 2001 Tibs do as well. From the sounds of it, Hyundai may have switched mid-model year to the new set up on the 2001 Tiburons. The only way to be sure is to check your shifter before ordering.

If you ordered the 2001 shifter, and your base plate doesn't look like the one in the pic above, it won't fit.

I was affraid of that happening. Hyundai made some small changes mid way through the 2000 model year Tib as well (they don't amount to much aftermarket wise, fortunately...mainly cosmetic things - hot plate in engine bay, the way the recirc switch works, and the seats).

Mister, if you're about to order the shifter, order the one for the '00 Tib. I just got mine today and it's for the '01 and it didn't fit. My car was made in JUN 01,2001, but it still have the 00 shifter.

Now I have to send it back>>>><img src=/images/forums/snitz/cry.gif width=16 height=16 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/cry.gif width=16 height=16 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/cry.gif width=16 height=16 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/mad.gif width=16 height=16 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/mad.gif width=16 height=16 border=0>DAAAAAMMMMNNNN

Hey REID, do you think that B&M had mis labeled the shifters? I said that because on the instuction maual, they have a Tib fx console and the picture of the car on the back is an fx.

No.
The shifter assembly on the 97-2000(and some 2001's) are the same. The only thing that changed was the appearance of the plastic around the shifter.

Not sure if you noticed or not (if you have the 2001 B&M), but the interior shot (of the shift mechanism) in that pic is of a 2001 Elantra.

The Tib FX was probably a donor car, or one that B&M purchased and hopped up a bit to show off.

For the Toronto area also ckeck out JRP (Dixie Rd @ Derry Rd), they have a website (www.jrponline.com), but it is best to vo pay them a visit. The owner, Derek Johnston, has a Tib that is nicely done up, and they are coming out with new Hyundai parts (HySpeed).

OOOHHHH Chuck will hate me if this other one don't fit either and I actually had the right one to begin with.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

The 97-99 or 2000 (can't remember when they switched to the new body style off the top of my head) should have the same shifter as the Tiburon because the Tiburon is built off the Elantra platform.

My guess for the switch in the 2001 Tiburon is that they redesigned the shifter mechanism (for the Elantra), and wanted to get rid of the remaining stock of the older shifter before switching the Tiburon over to the new style shifter, which appears to have happened mid-way through the 2001 model year Tibs.

Just look inside your shifter mechanism...if your stock shifter looks sort of like a fork (the shift lever goes down, then basically splits across a plate and drops down two sides, then you need the 2000 shifter. If your stock shifter is straight and has a ball that rests inside the plastic shifter base, then you need the 2001.

Nah, he'll just send you the right one back. <img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

Not to beat a dead horse to death or anything, but RC Performance has a few more of these in stock ready to ship if anyone is interested. <img src=/images/forums/snitz/cool.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

before you order, lift off your shifter plate and look if you have a black base plate or a white one. If you have a black one then you need the 2000 shifter. If you have a white one the you figure it out.

trust me, I know. I tried to tell them before they shpped it to me, but I guess they didn't know either.

Now they know...

Just checked B+M's website and noticed they have a dealer in the UK.
Gave the dealer a ring and the cost for the shifter is GBP135(US$191)+shipping.
I think I will just order mine from the states.

Barry
