I'm currently collection parts to make my own turbo kit. I'd just like to know if what I list is all i need to make the turbo work and not blow up my motor. I plan on running 5 -7psi by the way. Turbo (t3), boost controller, intercooler, IC piping, downpipe, stage 3 clutch, dsm fuel pump, boost dependant fpr, bov, wastegate, turbo exhaust manifold, colder plugs. this is all i can think of that i am planning to buy. will i need some type of engine management? or will this setup be ok for my low (5-7) boost conditions? thanks alot.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>

Using the US version of the MAF sensor - running up to a max of 5PSI will be fine with no need for an external management system.

Anything more than this, you will need either a piggy back system with an extra injector or for high boost applications you will need to upgrade all 4 injectors and run a stand alone management system.

You will also need to make other changes to the internals when running higher boost - and trust me, YOU WILL CRANK IT UP... :D

Other than that yuo sound like you have all the major bits and pieces.... you will still need many smaller itens like oil picjup and return piping, water piping to coole the center core (if it is water cooled) You will also need to make up fuel return system in order not to blow your stock submerged pump if connecting the stronger Fuel pump to it....

You will also need to make a plan with your oil breather coming out the head as when you start to boost, you will have a FINE MESS everywhere....

JETEdawg, we'll actually be selling them with the manifold optional, so it would work perfect for you.

Hey 4doorgl how about the reverse are you guys going to be selling just the manifold my setup is currently using all mitsu parts but i may be switching to a garrett turbo shortly just wondering if you are going to be selling the manifold alone and if so how much

Yes, we will also be selling components separately, but we don't have the pricing finalized yet.

4DoorGL is correct, pricing is basically finished, it's the costing for the shipping to the states that we are juggling with at the moment.

Rob - I will be sending you all the shipping details this week.

Ok, here's what im gonna do. I'm just gonna save for the kit and not buy the manifold. UFB or Rob....the kit will work with the manifold from champion autosports in korea, correct??? and one more question for UFB. with your kit installed, running 5-7psi, on street tires, with a 2.5" exhaust, are 13 sec 1/4 miles possible? or an i still in mid-low 14'??

If I remember right, the Champion manifold fits a T3, T4, etc. so it should work fine.

Jetedawg,

The Ballistic Racing Manifold will fit a Garrett/Turbonetics T3 turbine housing no problem! Regarding the boost - we will be setting up the tuning to run on around 10PSI (0.7bar boost) on pump fuel as the low boost setting. The kit will only come with a low boost setting initially and any further tuning for higher boost levels will have to be done on a dyno locally.

1/4 mile times should reach very near the 13's on low boost depending on the driver, traction and track temps etc! At high boost, you should be able to achieve blistering times and should close your clocks on the 800m quite easily!

Shadohh - I am going to take the pictures of the oil lines tomoroow at the shop and decode them for mail to you after that - pleasebear with me for now. The procedurte to tap in for oil feed is very simple and involves unscrewing a fitting and then screwing the lossened fitting to a "T piece" type fitting and then screwing the fittingback into the block. The place where we take the oil feed from is the oil pressure sensor location in between cylinder 3 & 4 just under the manifold. I will post the photo ASAP.

Hope this helps...!

UFB,
I wanna know if I am understanding correctly. Your kit is set up to run 0.7BAR (10PSI) of boost. And the motor doesnt go boom? If this is the case, and I'm not dreaming, I am definatly buying this kit. Can you give me a link, or post all that comes with the kit?? Thanks a TON!

JETE, the kit comes with low-compression pistons, lowering the compression down to 8.2:1 the correct way rather than using a head spacer like the Alpine kit. The kit can actually run at VERY high boost with the T3/T4 turbine, but the ECU we include with the kit is preprogrammed to run at 10psi.

Electronic boost control is optional and a VDO boost gauge is standard on the stage 1 and stage 2 kits.

You can easily run the beta motor at 10psi with stock internals.

My gues is, UFB and his company do this, to make sure they dont have to go aorund paying for BETA motors, its also just tons safer.

But their are a few Tiburons running aorund at 10psi on completely stock internals with compresssion at the stock 10.3, which is what mine will run :)

Some people even believe you can run at 15psi with major precise tuning envolved.

Not quite...

10psi is almost the upper limit of what the stock pistons will deal with, period. You can probably run 12psi for short periods of time, but the stock rings will already start allowing blowby even at 10psi.

You could probably run 15psi on INREDIBLY fine tuning, very good gasoline and a strictly controlled environment, but why? The money you would spend making such a feat happen would far outweigh doing it "right" the first time.

Now, I'm talking about all of this happening on STOCK internals. Buying stronger aftermarket pistons and running 10:1 or higher compression is certainly doable, but comes with a much larger safety margin and longer engine life than trying on stock parts.

There is a lot of COST SAVINGS involved in actually spending that money in buildling your engine... Would you rather pay now, or pay a LOT more later when your car turns into a Hyundai Hand Grenade the first time you get a tank of bad gasoline or aren't watching your EGT guage closely enough when it cruises past 1500 degrees F?

Just FYI, Onpol from FXTreme was going to *try* being the highest boosting person on stock internals. He upgraded turbos, installed 850cc injectors, already had an MSD ignition and installed his Haltech E6K unit.

He promptly decided otherwise when his "usual" 10psi on stock internals started blowing the dipstick out of it's tube. He's even running aftermarket rings, and yet he's still getting massive blowby.

He decided to purchase a set of the Ross pistons rather than futz with what would otherwise become a timebomb.

so the kit comes witt aftermarket pistons, and runs on 10psi just because that is how is comes programmed. but when it gets here, say i wanna run 12psi, all i gotta do is "mess with" the fully programable ecu it comes with and make sure everything is correct, and i can run more boost? because if i can run more boost, i want to run more boost! haha! unless the differential wont let me...

Hey UFB sorry if you've already answered this im just curious because i may pick up the manifold from your kit are you utilizing an external wastegate and if so is the flange already adapted into the manifold.
