Zup Doc....I was wondering about something. I currently have my tongue pierced and when I got it done..I had my tongue purposely pierced further back than usual, because I was planning on getting another stud sometime down the road. Now, that time is here, and I went out and looking around at places that do it. I got mine done a long time ago back home in Cali. So when I went around to the shops here, I was told I can't get a second one because there's a main vein that runs right near where I would get the second piercing. I wasn't aware of there being any "Major Veins" in my tongue. I don't see anything when I look at it in the mirror. What are your thoughts on this? Thanx.

Why get your toungue pierced the 2nd time?

That's MY thought.
I am not a doctor, but I just don't think you should do that.

I respect everyone's opinion, but I'm with JONAS666 on this one - why even do it the first time? I just think it is unattractive...and not to mention, OUCH!

think about it Stacy... just for a second!! hehehe... that's why I'd do it. It's also one of the quickest if not the quickest healing muscle in the body so once ur sick of it... u take it out, and the hole will close itself. sweet no?? try doing that with ur targus or sumthing!! ehehe

My best friend just had her tongue piercing and I have not seen anyone going through so much pain like she is right now.

She wanted to look "cool" and she thought that is a part of her identity, but now she realises that people go through changes through their lives... they try to find themselves and find out who they are and they do things, just to be different.

Then you realise who you are and you settle with what you got. She just realised that this was just an accessory, not a part of her identity and she will take it off.

I only have my ears and tongue done. I won't do anything else besides them. I got my tongue pierced when I was 16...8 years ago. That's before it REALLY caught on big. Now it seems like everyone has a tongue stud.

Your tongue is a muscle and all muscles need a blood supply including arteries (that bring fresh blood in) and veins (that take old blood back to the heart). One way to see some veins is by lifting up your tongue and putting the tip of the tongue toward back of mouth. See those 2 bluish looking areas that run along the bottom of the tongue one on each side that's them.
The answer is yes there are arteries and veins in the tongue! As far as where you're getting the second peircing, I don't know if there is a contraindication for getting it there. I'm going to look at the arterial system of the tongue a little closer tomorrow at the office.

What you do is your choice, but why not leave good enough alone? Enjoy what you have and leave it at that!

Thanx Doc! Appreciate it. I have to do alot of thinking as if I want to get another stud in my tongue. No one can't see the one that I have now because it's kind of far back. Oh well. Chances are more than likely I'll just leave it at what I have now.

yah i have heard of the vein thing too. I hear that if you hit that vein you lose your voice. Thats why i never did it. as far as hiting it is the skill of the person that does it. and if they tell you that you shouldn't do it, its probley cuss they dont want to do it so go somewhere that will do it.

Hehe simple question turned into a war zone! muahaha Instead of peircings I have muslces! No big deal! each to his own, whatever they like they get, if Josh wants 2 peircings then sweet, Ive never had any peircings, I wanted a Tatoo of a bull or something on my right arm or even a dragon, Kinda suits my complex, But it just simply never happened, so I'll stick to my 2 a day work out plan! Good luck josh!

Thanks for the backup Stacy.

And to others, I must admit, I am tatooed. I have two, a big armband on my right bicep/tricep, and a sun with flames and a face on the center of my spine.

But, both are hidden by any dress shirt, and most t-shirts (as long as the sleeves aren't too short). I wanted it this way so as not to affect my career.

First off, I was the one backing you off more, but then again...

Secondly, you are right about the career situation. You tell me what executive or director, or anyone with that function has visible piercings, or any "unusual" piercings as well?

Actually, Silky, there are a lot of very high up people in my company who have piercings (who make well into the 6 figure range). Any employer who has half a brain knows that apperance has little to do with intelligence and my company works entirely on just that, intelligence. I work for a software developing firm who has little to no financial problems (a rarety) right now and is constantly slaughtering our competition at trade shows and such. One of Canada's top 100 companies to work for, according to the Macleans poll. We are a company of highly specialized skill employees who come in many different shapes and sizes. The average software companies here are very flexible in appearance as they know that individuality has little to nothing to do with work ethic or IQ. Sometimes the most eccentric people are the smartest. Seems to be the rule here. Smart enough to be an individual and set yourself apart from the minions and sheep.

Also, keep in mind that piercings and tatoos are sometimes a spiritual thing and no one has the right to judge that...
