this has a bit of a story to it, but i'll make it quick.
i was invited to the release of the new Alfa Romeo 147, a big party hosted by Barbagallo Motors. it was all glitz and glamour and stuff. but the best bit was last week they let me take them for a test drive. so i arrived at the Barbagallo Raceway, where they race the V8 super cars (Perth Australia). first of all they take you around with a professional driver, and they teach you how to drive on the track. after a few laps, we pulled over in the pits, and swapped. so i'm thrashing this car at 160km/h and loving it. i must say it was a joy to drive. the first one i drove had the Selespeed sequential gearbox, it took a while to get used to changing gears on the steering wheel. then i drove the normal manual.
there was some time left over, so the guys running the show let me take my 93' Excel around the track. i raced against this other guy that was there in his crappy colt. he took off ahead of me, because i had to give way to an incoming Alfa, but i quickly caught up to him and over took him on the straight at 150km/h. all the while my friend was in the club house over looking the track and taking photos.
so i must say, there is nothing like official racing your own Hyundai on a world class professional race track.
i can't upload the pics, but i can email them to someone who can. thats if you want to see them
