Hi,

does anyone here have the dimensions for a rollcage, for a 1997 5dr hatchback accent?

I want one for extra rigidity for track events.

Thanks

The 5dr hatch was never sold in the US. I do not know of any bolt-in rollcages for the Accent. Find a shop that builds race cars in your area, and ask them to make you a custom cage or roll bar depending on your needs. Who do you do track days with? Talk to someone in the club and get a copy of the competition and safety regulations they follow, and go from there.

A basic roll bar, to take your own measurements, consists of a main hoop at around the b-pillar, and rear diagonal braces going back towards the rear strut towers. Here's a basic roll bar:

Notice the 4 attachment points to the chassis.

You can also add a diagonal from the driver's side to the passenger side to further stiffen the chassis, add a harness bar, etc., but you still only have the 4 attachment points, no side or front protection, etc.

A roll cage is more complicated and consists of 6 or more attachement points. In addition to the 4 points of a roll bar (rear strut towers, b pillar), you will also have at least a pair of attachment points at the front of the car near the A-pillar. Here's a pic:

The above is a generic bolt-in roll cage, considered the bare minimum by most sanctioning bodies. The will typically have another roll hoop at the windshield, and side protection at the doors. Much more complicated to install and fabricate, but much stronger, stiffer, and safer (assuming everything is done properly and you're using the proper safety equipment). Some people will tie in the door bars into the firewall for a total of 8 attachement points.

here in Australia your looking at around a decent $5g's plus for a mild steel approved 6 point rollcage that is sanctioned by CAMS (our governing body)
make that close to $10g's if your looking at a full chromoly 6point with harness bars and front window loop and X side intrusion bars
these are all custom fabricated - it is possible to buy premade approved ones for cars like evo's, wrx's and skylines
