hey folks, i'm just curious, the other day, i got a needle and i poked it into the "green" wire in the coil harness.. i hooked that up to a little tachometer and i got a signal but i forgot to set the tach to 4 cylinder ( i had it set to v8).. and the reading was irratic at best... i was short on time, so i gave up there....

i will try it again when i have time, but i am curious, has anyone hooked an aftermarket tachometer to this "green" wire or any other wire on the ignition coil harness? ??

unfortunatly man you cant use one of the coil harness wires they are outputs from the ecm and are broken up into two seperate triggers whick cover two cylinders each one and three and then two and four so your reading would be off you need to tap the wire that input engine speed into the ecm or the output to the back of your stock tachometer

listen here guys, my car is a GL, it does NOT HAVE A TACH IN THE GUAGE CLUSTER .

so, has anyone actually noticed, that there are 3 wires on the coil harness. not two..

the middle wire is green... JUST LIKE TACH WIRES ARE COLORED... so, i'm wondering, has anyone ever tried to tap that one ?

If I remember correctly that is supposedly the "correct" wire going by what the directions say...

Do like I did and just hold the wire to the connection with the guage sitting under the hood or as close as the wires will allow,(temporarily connect the others directly to the battery) so that you can test it...

Does that even make sense... I don't know it's getting late.

Tried it before. You only get half reading on the tach even if it was set to 4cyl.

Only way to get a signal is from pin 47 on the ecu. Let me tell ya what a pain that was to find the right wire in the bundle. Search for "ecm" and there's a harness diagram floating around here somewhere.

The white wire coming out of the ECM plug is the tach wire. Tap into it and you will get the engine speed signal.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>

Thanks for digging up a 3 year old post. Good to see you searching though.

One would suspect you may have to log onto HMA Service to find your answer as all these guys have the beta engine and you have the alpha. I have an 02 accent so it may be different between our models too.

Best of luck,

The only suggestion I would like to add is not to be an idiot(like me) and tap the power into the windshield wiper wire. Mine work fine as long as it's not raining.
