This actually happend friday night. Just left a shop picking up something for the Teg, roll up to the first light on 137th Ave. near Tamiami airport (nice wide open 3 lane road with traffic lights in about 1/3 mile intervals). Sitting there, I notice a nice red Dakota pull up along side me, R/T wheels, fenders, and R/T 5.9 markings. Window is tinted but I could make out what appeared to be a young guy inside.

Anyways I was ready just in case Mr. Dakota wanted to make a mad dash away from the light, light goes green and he rolls out nice n' slow, so do I. Being a little dissapointed, I kinda goose the throttle a bit in 2nd to get him to bite.. no dice. So I casually plop it into 3rd conceding to the fact that he didn't want to play... and what does he do? Of couse, he nails it just as I hit 3rd Rather than downshifting, I just nail it with him from about 4k rpm in 3rd, by the time the IAB's opend up, he had come from my rear quarterpanel to about even with me, by the time I hit 8100 though, I had started to inch back away from him. Grab 4th and continue to slowly inch away for a few more secs, and I finally let off before we encounter traffic about a fender ahead of the R/T.

Well needless to say, this left me totally unimpressed. I mean he had the jump on me when he nailed it, AND I stated from a low 4k rpm in 3rd, and he still never managed to pass me.. infact I began inching away from him, and this is in a bone stock GS-R.. Guess Dodge hasn't an answer for the Lightning as of yet

Cliffs: Line up with a Dakota R/T, gives me the impression he is of no interest then tries to pull a sneak attack on me...

I tell people, you gotta watch these sneaky boys in their P.U.s. The Dodge Dakota Quad cab (4.7 V-8) is as fast or faster than the R/T you
raced. The Toyota S-runner is quick
and will surprise the unsuspecting.
The GMC Sierra C3 also treat with caution..that 6.0 V-8 is faster than the ones I mentioned above....7.4
0-60 and 15.5 or so in the 1/4....not to taken lightly. Good
Save.

I got toasted by an older guy in a GMC Denali sport-ute. He was in the right lane, I was in the left, and he wanted to get in front of everyone before the road went from 2 lanes to one. I knew he was gonna go for it, but he wasn't "racing". I just tried to see if I could keep up but not a chance! I don't even think he was into the throttle more than 3/4 of the way but his big V-8 did the trick.

Dakota R/T isn't fast in the upper gears, but will probally give a Type-R a run for its money from 0-60. It's a pick-up not a race car.

Dakota R/T 0-60 6.5 1/4 15
ITR 0-60 6.2 - 6.6 were the times I saw most commonly.

Looking at the R/T it makes its time all in the dash, whereas the Teg GS-R makes all its time in the stretch. Should have had no problem.

I haven't quite figured out what the Tiburon is going to be. I think its a dash car but not by much.

Smiley, where did you see those race times for the R/T etc.? Those trucks can't possibly be stock. I've never seen a 0-60 time under 7 seconds for any P.U. except the Ford Lightening.

Sorry for not responding sooner, Maxx... I drive a stock '97 Accent SOHC 5-speed. Not quite as powerful as a Denali!

R/Ts have mad torque. mad torque. they will kill lots of things off the line, but for a quarter mile run, they run mid to high 15s. still a good race for a newer Si, tib, celica, but they arent that fast in the long run. however, a blown 5.9L 2wd truck will kick most of your asses. same with a 454SS or similar trucks. you give them a blower, theyll give you a 13 second trip down the track. i saw a blazer with a 454 run a 12.7. it was funny cause he was racing my friend in his 2000 Si, and he got a shitty time because he was so mezmerized by this truck.

and consider the fact that the lightning is supercharged. throw a supercharger on the R/T and then compare them.

Dodge throws the R/T at the Lightning as a competitor, not me. Go ahead and SC the R/T if you want to make it a more fair competition, but Dodge shoulda thought of that BEFORE they compared the two

Yeah, there is no doubt that you can get some hella fast times from these P.U.'s with the right mods, they have a lot of Hp and torque to start with....but I stick to my earlier statement...there isn't any P.U. out there that can get 14's or under 7 seconds 0-60 STOCK...except for the Lightning...and I don't think the R/t is the fastest of the rest either.

My times are from Car and Driver actually.

Remember, the R/T has 345lbs-ft of torque in a 3,600lbs car. Thats triple the torque almost of the ITR and well 1,000 more but still.

Plus its got extremely wide tires and RWD that puts down the power very nicely.

But then the lack of HP and too much weight slows it down when you have taken off.

dodge really compares them? where'd you see that? thats more or less retarded, but whatever, dodge just needs to make more comercials like the one where all their models are just spinning down a track. thats sweet.

R/T's can be pretty quick. My friend has a black 98 (?) RT. He found some kind of fiberglass front bumper. Looks pretty sweet. We lowered it some, did the intake and exhaust. Fiberglass bed cover with a HUGE aluminum spoiler on the back. People laugh at him and try to race him. He barely ever loses short races. We dont know if they guys are mad at us because we beat them, or because the spoiler actually serves a purpose and theirs doesnt. ????

Dodges arn't all that bad.....I have a '72 dodge p/u, it's not the prettiest thing in the world but it blows most imports off the road. The problem is trying to get someone to race me. My best time was 14.9 at Sears Point Raceway, but consistant 15.3's at Sacramento Speedway. My truck is like 5500lbs with about 425lbs of torque and 350 to 375hp. When i lose it's on the freeway and even then i can hold em untill i top out at about 125mph. My speedometer only goes to 100 but my friends mustang gt helped me with the reading.
