Something a little disturbing

My good buddy just got a 1988 Acura Integra LS. "OK cool" I thought "now he has a rice rocket to replace the Pontiac we exploded some time ago" Well on the way home we held our own impromptu "Gran Prix de StopLight" and that little 12 year old Acura was quick. I beat him sure...but only by a car length and its not like a can't drive my car fast straight (yes, it's a 5 speed). The Integra (also a 5 speed) is still stock (well, not for long..but it was last night).

So any thoughts ono the matter?

As a bonus we both got pulled over for exhibition of speed (never exceeded the speed limit). The cop followed us through 3 seperate lights as we spun the tires through each intersection. He says "I was gonna let you guys go...but you had to go a third time...didn't ya??" He still let us off with a warning, since we explained the Acura was "new" and we were just having fun/ testing it <---that's the way we looked too.

Anyway...

It has a B18A in it. Find the specs for that motor. I believe its a close match to a Tib, plus it's a lot lighter.

It also does not sound like you to went very fast or very far since you didn't break the speed limit. If that is the case a stock accent can pretty much keep up with a Tib til about 30mph and would only loose by about a car length or so at a race til about 60mph

I agree with Auto....you need to do a long full race if you are going to compare!

I dunno if this is true but someone told me, can't remeber who, that an acent with the Alpha III can pretty much keep up with an automatic tiburon. Is this ture? How fast are you normally going buy 60ft... mine are as good as what i see posted on clubsi... are you even to 30 at 60ft?

i am sorry rob but i have to prove you wrong. the 86-89 integra came with the d16a6 a.k.a the zc. this motor was the main motors in the 86-89 integras and it produced 118hp and 103ft-lb of torque. your thinking of the 90-93 integra that has the b18a. sorry rob.
Wow, I stand corrected .

I wasn't aware the Integra ever had a D16. I retract my previous statement.

Well, like I said they're both 5 speeds. The engine specs were listed by someone else already. The Integra weighs about 300 pounds less then the tib. It was close enough to make me think. Like you guys said, in a longer race I'm sure the Tib would prevail. We G-teched the Integra last night. 0-60 in 8.7 1/4 16.8
My tib was doin' 0-60 7.5 and a 15.9 1/4 ...seems close to me ....go figure.
Thats not close realy. Almost a hole second faster is a big difference.

As far as the accent vs Tib. The 5spd accent and the automatic Tib have almost the same 1/4 mile times. But the Auto Tib will still kill the accent in top end.

Believe me now that my accent is running good I can not tell much difference (just a little) until you get over 60mph.

Is that the 1.5 or the 1.6? I take the quater mile over a second faster than the SOHC 1.5 and have beaten an older tib. I don't think he was power brakeing and I gave mine all she had. 3000rpm jump etc..

1.5 and 1.6 is about the same. A race between bot could be easily decided by driver.

As far as you beatin a Tib it is pretty reasonable to believe especially if you are a 5spd and the tib was an automatic. Also if they both were 5spd it is possibe for a better driver to beat a Tib with an accent.

i wouldn't trust g-tech pro stats, conditions need to be damn near perfect for it to give accurate readings.

and scoupe is right the pre 90's integras had the zc motor (a prized engine for crx owner). but scoupe i thought the d16 and zc were 2 different engines, im going to have to check up on that. the zc is a dohc carburated engine from my understanding.

ok in my searching i found this, i am going to refer to crx's b/c it is nearly the same engine:

d16A9 = japanese fuel injected engine
d16a8 = european carburated engine
zc = (d16a8 and 9 therefore it is a jdm engine)

d16A6 = american fuel injected engine
1.6 sohc non vtec 88 = 105hp 89-91 = 108hp

D16A1 = 88-91 integra ls, similar to jdm zc engine but has diff mounts and head. im still looking for number on it.

the japanese and european models have 130hp.

there is NO american zc, thats what i thought but i wasn't for sure b/c i wasn't familiar with the early integras.

drum roll...

and here are the specs i have been searching for. your friend has a D16A1 as i said in the post prior to this. 118hp 103lbs of torque. here is a link to full specs on it. http://www.g1teg.org/specs/

as you can see the pre 88 integras also had a D16A1 but it was only 113hp and 99lbs of torque. sorry i had to prove you wrong scoupe, but after i agreed with you i reread and i knew something was up with the zc comment :)

damn im a post whore.

very good rudy and i have some more tidbits d16a1 and zc are similar but the difference is brown valve cover and 133 hp in the jdm civic si and crx you can find this in the jan. issue of sport compact car.

keep on tuning
