Not a real race just a couple jack @$$es causing crap down the hiway.

I just crossed the border in Niagra Falls into Canada after spending New Years in New York City. (I had a flame / legal help post but I hit a combo of buttons and closed the god damn window )

We were flying through traffic since Canadian drivers can't drive crap compared to the NY State drivers, mad props to them, and Canadian drivers are a bunch of ignorant bastards. ( I m from Ontario and 401 drivers especially will agree with me while trying to drive fast in the PASSING LANE! )

So we were shooting through traffic and I let the VR6 lead and once in a while he would get trapped and I would blow past him.

We finally come to a huge gap and we slow it down to about 100 km/h. His passenger goes on his fingures 1 -2 -3 and waves his hand and we both take off down the open space starting at 100 km/h (or 65 mph).

We stayed perfectly even the whole time and I rolled down my window and you could hear both cars reving hard (the Sonata and Jetta). I slowly started inching ever so slightly. We got them up to 180 km/h then slowed it down for upcoming traffic.

We go weaving in and out for about 5 more mins then traffic started to crawl and I tucked behind him and we chilled in the left lane. All of sudden an Integra flys out onto a ramp and passes a couple cars and then slows down in the middle lane and puts on his hazards and raises his fist in the air like he had 'victory' or something. Then he gets off at the next ramp. I think he thinks he won a race he never was in or something. I remember blowing past that guy like about 10 mins or so before and he caught up to us and then about 5-10 mins later when we started really going at it he musta been trying to keep up. It was riced out with 'gold' and all this other stickers and crap. Stock exhaust though.

Anyway so happily (in a way) we had to slow down to 30 km/h and I pulled into the lane to the right of the Jetta. I asked what he had. He said I/h/e and chipped. I was like your kidding me right? Hes like nope, then asked if I was running on a turbo or supercharger to keep up cause he had done his research on the Sonata and said the Canadian Sonata should not have kept up. I said nope just i/h/e all custom. He was extremely surprised.

Turns out the guy hangs out on vwvortex.com and so I guess I might chill out there every so often cause it was really cool. We were stuck in the traffic jam for about 30 mins and then we both took off me to Kitchener him to Toronto.

I wish I asked if it was a 5-speed or the auto though I never thought of asking!!!!

Just thought I would share.

no bottle actually, just all natural

I do think he had an extra one or two people over me. I m not sure since he had the windows tinted up black in the back so an extra 200 -300 pounds or so I didnt really notice much.

Those Jettas are quick on their feet because they have low end torque. But once up to speed, its all driver, because you have 175 hp, he has 181hp.

Cool story Smiley. Have you ever experienced Californian drivers?
I've seen it all out here. Left hand turns from the middle lane at the light..even right hand turns from the left turn lane across three lanes. I hate the slack-jawed,
passive/aggressive simpletons that insist on driving 20 mph under the limit at peek hours the most.

Yeah, the newest Golfs and Jettas
have some real speed...with the bigger engines of course, not the base ones! The V-6, 1.8 turbo etc...

Hey Sonata owners... someone was saying that in a staight line the accent couldn't keep up (but was hard to get away from in a curve) I looked up the stats on a Sonta v6 auto and it showed a 1/4mile time of alil over 17secs (Carpoint) I know those times seem to be funny sometimes... are they showing a slower time than what a Sonata can do or is it an even matchup with a 5spd accent?(Saying both are good drivers) And how much faster is the stick?

WytchDctr, I'll get back to ya with some data. I do have this for the auto Sonata from Consumer Guide..
0-60 in 9 flat, which is probably close to your 0-60.

Found these times in my notes for the Sonata...perhaps from Edmunds...not certain of the source
since I didn't appear to note it.
2000 Sonata v-4 auto 10.6 0-60
17.6 1/4
v-6 auto 9.6 0-60
17.3 1/4
I'll see if I have any manual times

Well stock vs Integra with exhaust at the very least, I lost a race by about a car length. I was by myself and the guy had one other person with him.

I/H/E vs Nissan 240 he had at least an exhaust too, and I had 2 other people in the car. He got me by about 2 feet and that was only because he had a perfect start since he jumped that distance on me and it just kept going on from there.

With I/H/E and NOS vs RSX Type S, I got him by when I confirmed it with the extra person in my car, a car length.

I know for a fact an Accent will not keep up with me on the hiway. When I shift out of O/D gear and stick it into third, let her sit at about 3,000 RPM then stomp it, it flys from 100 - 180. Maybe not quite as fast as a V8 or something, but WAY faster then my Tiburon did. I think also my Sonata right now off the line is SLIGHTLY faster then my Tiburon which crashed with only an exhaust (and other parts were on order )

As for numbers, I thought yes those numbers were correct. But when I first bought it, with a stop watch in hand, I did the 0-60 in just under 9 (like I think it seriously was 8.97) but I think that it I would have launched at 2,500RPM I think I could have brought it down even more by at least 0.1 - 0.3 (I haven't timed it).
