if they are spongy, then there is air in the system. Rear brakes would cause a low pedal situation, not spongy pedal. Bleed the brakes and you should be fine.
Did you open a bleeder screw or run it out of fluid? If not then you wouldn't have air in it unless you overheated it and boiled the brake fluid. Brakes are a closed system. Air doesn't magically appear in the lines..
Oh ya. Use DOT 4 brake fluid. Don't use DOT 5 it is not meant for automotive. DOT 4 has a higher boiling point and will last alot longer if your beating on your brakes like it sounds like you are.. =)
