i was wondering if i need to have a flex section where the stock one is or can i replace with with a pipe?

To expand further, your flex pipe essentially "protects" your cat from shock/vibration damage.

Consider the fact that your cat and exhaust manifold are an all in one type piece. 9 times out of 10, they won't be able to get the O2 sensor out either... you're looking at 1100-1400 worth of parts that could be at risk if you decide to replace the flex pipe with something other than OEM and it gets damaged.

When you do replace it, I would recommend buying new mounting hardware.

If you don't want to purchase a brand new one (around $140), you can always try http://www.allhyundaiisuzuparts.com/ I purchased my replacement (used) for $50 plus shipping.
