I've been thinking about all sorts of things I would like to do with my 1993 Hyundai Scoupe LS nonturbo. I've been thinking about engine swaps which seem very complicated and an unsure process. I've thought about turbo, but they say the engine can't take it. Recently it crossed my about a supercharger. Here are the steps I'm thinking about : First is buying the HVe motorsports 4 into 1 Extractor (Header), 2 would be HVe Billet camshaft, 3 would be HVe ported Head, then have the engine rebuilt and have those parts added plus a HVe modified throttle body, custom CAI, then custom cat back. After all that, I would like to know if my engine could endure a turbo or if there's a supercharger out there I could put in there?

Sorry for all the questions, but hey, I'm stupid!<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>

The part of your car that cannot handle the turbo is the high compression pistions the non-turbo models got.

If you replace your pistions and rods with the turbo variant...or just do a turbo motor/exhaust swap, then you would be good to go.

No one makes a supercharger for the scoupe, so you would have to build your own. Modifing the old turbo motor sounds like a safer bet. Pick up a complete used scoupe motor/turbo from a junkyard, then rebuild it. Once you have it reconditioned/upgraded, then swap out your motor for the new turbo powerplant! If you can find them used turboscoupe motors should be fairly cheap...finding them is the problem!

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.

Hey Random, do you know where I could see a pic of a Scoupe turbo engine bay?

Hello,

I drive a 1995 SE Coupe Turbo. I have a couple photographs of the engine that I took for other purposes. They don't show the turbo however. I could possibly take some other photos for you. I also have a complete copy of the SE Coupe Turbo Shop Manual. You can download it from:
http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp

there should be one for your car there too.

Here's a pic of my SE Coupe Turbo, and two of the engine.
