Ok I'm interested in installing a supercharger. I've seen some messages posted on turbo charging, but sc is a very different proposition. tc - works off exhaust and spolls up, sc runs off a pulley. Installation "should" be a little less of a headache with the supercharger. Plus this is a day to day car, but I just want maybe an extra 20 HP just in case I need it (or I feel the need for speed, which rarely happens). Has anyone else done this in a Tiburon, if so which kit are you using? What type of torque and hp results are you getting? What mods are required prior to installation of a SC installation? Can I pretty much go with stock pistons, injectors, fuel pump? What piggy back ECU do you recommend? Any idea where I can find installation instructions for a Tib on the web?

Correct about the turboing, it does require of bit of work and yes your right about the sc too. Install is easy for the SC, just take off you intake manifold get the pully on there, I think your gunna get more than 20hp from the supercharger, go with alpines, they come with a unichip, you can run all your stock stuff on it with no problems, eventually if you want you can upgrade for higher boosting. Alpine comes with its own installtion instructions. SC's are easy to install.

If you only want 20 more horses, stay naturaly aspirated and save them bones for other things.

I have the Alpine SC and believe me, installation was not easy!!

I was without the car for almost a week. The main problem is that the Alpine kit utilises the engine mount brackets, for mounting the pulleys on. And as engine mount brackets are never the same between cars, what was right for them, was not right for me. It cost me more than the kit cost to have the brackets machined, I also had to have the pulleys machined as the belts didn't run on them properly and recently I have had to have 'sides' put on the guide pulley, as it didn;t have any and wasn't doing a good job of guiding!

I'm not trying to put you off, but my s/c installation has been a real pita. Its great now that its running OK :)

[edit]
I am using stock internals etc. I know that other s/c users have upgraded the fuel pump, I haven't need to do this yet[/edit]

Xorro- Did you ever get any money refunded from Alpine for all of your troubles?

Did Alpine ship you a new Power steeering hose, or did you have to buy/fabricate a new one?

"Holy Labour of Love, Batman, er I mean Xorrox"... sounds like the Alpine was a pain in the butt to install.
Yeah, what I'm looking for is for is a relatively easy kit to install - so that one is off my list...
Has anyone tried an Eaton or a Rimmer sc? If the supplier is in North America even better. I'd like to hear (read) other folks experiences with their sc installation.
BTW point taken Skierd, but if it ends up being an additional 100 ponies, I won't complain.

Rimmer is gone, went outta business. KORE will soon have a supercharger kit available. I honestly don't know who else, i don't really look for tib parts all that often! ;)

C.A.P.A. Down under sells the AutoRotor twin screw supercharger, and also sells centrifical(sp) units.

Random,

I've had no joy getting any recompence(sp?) from Alpine. RGS who do all my work are out of pocket too - they recently had to put some 'sides' on the guide pulley, which they did FOC for me.

What was that about the power steering hose?

I have the Unichip fitted now, the car is definately running better, but I would like to get the Unichip fine tuned so that 'takes into account' all my other mods.
I'm actually getting torque steer in 1st and 2nd gear and if the roads are a bit wet I get wheel-hop in both those gears too!

Dano, the Alpine system might install OK on your tibby, it depends on what shape the engine mount brackets are.

The mad thing is that I cannot believe that Alpine are relying on those brackets when they are a part that can vary in shape from car to car!

Xorro, maybe it's just that the UK version mounts are different, I dunno just a suggestion... I would think that they wouldn't make (Hyundai I mean) 20 different types of mounts... it would be too costly to just put whichever one in... just my .02$

The South African tiburon and the UK are of a similar spec, including MAP/ECU etc.

I didn't mean that Hyundai deliberately made different mounting brackets, just that they are not manufactured as precisely as other car parts - therefore they often turn out slightly different.

Hi.

I have a Hyundai Coupe with the 1.8 L Beta Engine and I would like to know if the Alpine SC will work on it.

If so ¿Will it need any modifications?
