This was told to me by a regional service manager who got to drive one at a conference in Canada. Believe it or not!!! It is true. He told me that Hyundai was holding back actual numbers so that the other cars released around that time had no time to tweak the engines to make it more comparable.......If this is true and i believe it is Hyundai has done it and they have a winner on there hands

sorry that's completely wrong, HYUNDAI wouldn't be stupid enough to go to 2 shows in the US already with them (MIAMI INT. AUTO SHOW & SEMA), and state that they have the same SANTA FE engine which i have seen with my own eyes and tell everyone they are producing 181hp and 177lb/ft...

And then later when they feel it's time to release the correct #'s as per your friends account...

SORRY, I would have to call the BS FLAG on this, once again it goes to show you many dealers out there don't know JACK... and are giving out false information...

1st. it is not a friend...
2nd. nope not a dealer either..regional service manager
3rd. he has no reason to lie because just got my current tiburon
4th. with the 181 hp it would not beat the rsx type s as badly as the apc team said..
5th. all i can say is we shall wait and see

I mean think about it... he could be telling lies, but why would he?? what could he gain? nothing exactly what i am saying and when/if i am right i will be awaiting some free headers and a supercharger :p ok j/k on the last part

Talk about dealers not knowing anything, I went to a dealership and the sales person thought that just because my Hyundai is financed through Ford, that Ford owned Hyundai is what he told me. I had to hold back the laughter, I just wanted to slap some sense into him.

Yeah..okay...you caught us.....we weren't going to say anything...but the REAL name for the new Tib is the Ford Tiburon!

I can't believe the people that some of these dealerships hire. Damn...I should go work for a Hyundai dealer. Half the sales people here don't know squat about the vehicles too. I would probably clean up and be the top salesperson if I worked there. *lol* J/K

182 HP would be unbeliveable because we have known for a while it will be 181...200 something is just out of the question. I dont know what that guy is smoking, but i probably couldnt afford it...

I dont know cause 181 hp does sound low for a V6 in a sports car. The pontiac grand am has 200 hp from its V6. It just seems possible that it is actually 237 hp. But either way it is a bad ass lookin car.

I've been speaking to the head of Hyundai Motor America all week.

It will come with 181hp, 177 lb-ft.

Your "source" is full of ****.

That pisses me off. 181 hp is ****. Hyundai took the lazy way out and just copied the Santa Fe V6 and didn't tune it more to squeeze out some more hp. I bet they could have packed in a few more and got up around 200hp.

You never know.....since Nissan announced that their engine 2.5L from Altima and the Hot Rod sentra (SE-R?) was over rated, Hyundai might announce that it's motor is under rated. It is a possibility.....although it's very slim chance.

OH!!! OH!!! I have a dealership BS story, too! - When I took my Tib in to have the rear-view mirror replaced (rattled like a bitch), I thought I'd take a look around the lot. While I was standing there admiring a '99 Trans Am (mmm...LS1), one of the salesmen walks up and asks if he could help. So I asked him if he knew anything about the 2002/2003 Tiburon, and he said "sure, there's one right over there!". I was like, ohh, you're selling the 2001's as 2002's or something? (It looked like a 2K/2K1 where he was pointing) He looked at me like I'd just run over his dog, and said "NO!, IT'S A REAL 2002!". So I ask "what's the difference?"... "oh, it's umm... a little bit higher in back, and umm it has a different spoiler, and [mumbles something about the engine]...", then he mumbles something else and walks away. Anyway, I go over to take a look, and yep, it looks exactly like a 2001, except it was marked $17,125!!! Not to mention it was only an Auto/Package 3... Damn!

JRH, what the hell are you talking about?

The car is plenty fast and they've left plenty of room for mods with the 181hp.

Ok. guys it's time that I put in my two cents. We have to remember that in this day and age we are looking and hoping to find other sources of energy and most people are looking for a car that's very fuel efficient. With the alot of the new cars coming out you see that they get rated by how many miles to the gallon you can get. We like performance therefore we dont really care how much fuel it takes to get us going, but you have to remember that they as car makers have to make both young and old happy and with some modifications we can get a lot out of that engine, so lets not trash it as yet soon we'll be seeing this puppy runing in GT races with Porches, Audis, Mercedes, Beemers and Vipers.

I feed my Shark honda's for breakfast!!

I really want the new tibbi but they did take the lazy way out. I mean would neone here buy a Camaro if the motor was the exact same one out of the suburban or something along those lines. I hope hyundai rethinks their approach and at least do some mods to the 2.7 cause 181 HP aint enough for me and also with 181 HP it is NOT gonna do 0-60 in 7.2 sec. A V6 mustang which has 200 HP or a V6 Camaro which has 200HP or the Grand Am which has 200 + HP only do 0-60 in bout 7.9 sec so I gotta say Hyundai is either blowin smoke up our asses with the HP rating or the 0-60 stats. But I am still gonna test drive one when they come out just cause I could be totally wrong. Hopefully I am.

cupdaddy, remember the Tib only weighs between 2800-2900 lbs. How much does the Camaro and the Mustang weight? Also, the Tib has excellent gearing with its 6-speed tranny.

There's A LOT more variables to speed than just a hp number.

Thankyou

You guys need to quit whining about the car before you even see it. Geezus krist it is about 20 more hp the a civic Si at the same price. Plus the V6 will produce better gains with Mods than a 4cyl.

Just chill and wait for the release date and if you still do not like it after you test drive it then bitch
