is it me, or does the sonata have one of the weakest V-6 engines on the market? i have a 1999 GLS, rated at 170 hp, but i swear the pushrod V-6 in my 1992 oldsmobile is a more potent engine. and why is it that NO ONE sells anything for this engine. even within this group of hyundai afficionados, i cannot find anything more than body kits and dash kits. is it me, or is everyone else satisfied with this weak performance? personally, i think the sonata looks and handles like a champ, but lacks the pizazz to back it up. if anyone has any suggestions (like where to buy a 10 psi boost turbo kit) please let me know. thanks.

to tell you the truth, this site is more focused on the little cars, like the tib, accent and elantra, but not so much on the sonata, xg, or the santa fe..

buy the headers from the 2003 Tibuorn V6 2.7L.

Get a cat back exhaust done (high flow cat too would be nice).

Get a CAI even if it has to be custom.

Work your way up to 90 shots of nitro (remembering to replace your fuel pump with a higher flow when you hit around 75 shots) and start at 55 and work your way up.

At 55 shots you should be able to take an RSX-S which runs around 15.2 in the 1/4. With 90 shots I think you would be running around mid to low 14's, dare I say low 13's with the right traction off hte line. That should let you beat any car really on the road (depending on where your from of course). Plus maintain an excellent fuel mileage cause most of your power is turned on a flick of a switch.

Then suspension, HIGHLY recommend some larger rims, struts are available, Kore should have some coil overs for you shortly, if not NOW!

Brakes, I m not sure what you can do. There are options on shark racing I am 99% sure. I haven't researched this too much. Funny thing is I tend to think about making the car fast, but never to slow me down afterwards <img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

So what else you wanna upgrade performance wise?

thanks for the input guys, and as a last resort, i can always switch over to honda or toyota. just kidding of course. i think an even 200 hp would make this car fun to drive all the time, and hopefully with the new tiburon coming soon with the 2.7 V-6, there will be more parts that translate over to my poor sonata.

Yes there are quite a bit of parts that will fit. I know if you bug the people that are selling the parts they will tell you whats compatible.

If you do what I mentioned above, it will put you probally close to the 300hp mark when you spray (at the flywheel).
