Ok, I've read the Hyper auto club report on the scoupe turbo conversion. To get the compression ratio down to 7.5:1 I'd have to put in the turbo Scoupe pistons in my non Scoupe. The piston diameter of the Scoupe is 75.470mm and the Scoupe turbo's piston is 75.465mm, how would I be able to put the turbo piston to fit or could I swap the entire top end of the Scoupe for the Turboed top end. Next is spark plugs that have to be 2 heat settings lower than the Scoupe nonturbo, but I don't think this will cause a problem to change them. The oil sprays for cooling the pistons that are in the turbo Scoupe engine, can they be put into the Scoupe nonturbo engine in some way. I would also have to change the camshaft would that create a problem? Next is the air flow meter which I don't think will be a problem to change. Neither would the 2 engine temperature sensors. The other problem I have is with the Ignition system. It says that the Scoupe turbo has a standard distributor to control spark timing and the nonturbo has a fully electronic ignition. Can this be switched over or does it even have to be switched? Then the ECU, can I just use the Scoupe turbo one or do I have to get a new Eprom chip programed or use an aftermarket one like Motec? Then I put in the Mass Air Pressure (MAP) sensor, hopefully with no problems. Then change the fuel injectors. If you have any input on this please help. Also, I could save alot of trouble by just swaping the block of the engine right? If you know if the Scoupe turbo block fits where the nonturbo block goes please let me know.

thanks in advance!
Mike

It wouldn't work.

You have the wrong motor to begin with. Look at your motor and tell me if the intake is on the passenger side or the drivers side of your motor, and if possible, post a picture.

actually your biggest problem would be finding all of these s-coupe turbo parts.. trust me...it would be easier and more cost effective to swap out for the 4g63..the turbo s-coupe only puts out 105hp all that money for 13hp is backwards...4g63 turbo is 220hp you do the math...and for the price of someone changing your cams and pistons, among other things some one could stuff that 4g63 motor in there...i'm not sure about the mitsu non turbo but it's in the area of 130-150hp

Thanks s-coupe, but I've been trying to get info for that 4g63t swap and no one seems to know all that much about it. All I know is that the motor mounts are in the same spots. But, I don't want to put my car AWD so can I still use the hyundai tranny or do I have to swap engine and tranny? I know also that I need the ECU from the other car and wires. Accept for that I don't know if anything else will fit, like shafts, steering knuckles...

Sorry, don't mean to be picky...but the Turbo motor puts out 115 bhp.

Now, remapping the ECU and fittinga larger turbo (say a Garett T25) 160 bhp is quite obtainable.

I agree that ditching the old motor and sourcing a TC motor would be much more cost effective and it should be a straightforward swap. Don't forget though that residuals are pretty low on a Scoupe so do you really want to spend all that money and time?(which you cannot recoup!) My advice would be to sell your current car,buy a turbo Scoupe and make your modifications. It will be a lot cheaper that way.

I've never seen a turboed scoupe in my surroundings so that would be virtually impossible. I would really like to do something with what I have. I must admit, I'm thinking about selling to buy an old Honda CRX, but everyone around here is driving Honda's. I WANT A FAST HYUNDAI!!!! Just to be different and I just love my Scoupe's look.

you dont have to go AWD,you can get the gs tranny..i've been lucky to have everything fall into my lap..right now there is alot of 4g63 motors 4-sale..the whole car that is..
not too many turbos but i have found those motors complete in junk yards..and super scoupe your right i've only seen 1 turbo scoupe in my life..every one does have a honda..i want a fast hyundai..and i also like the way my scoupe looks..all the time i
hear why am i going through so much trouble
for my hyundai...they just dont understand!
but to be specific i found a place on the net
that has the turbo/eclipse,galant 1990-92 1997cc 4g63 2.0L f.i. 16valve DOHC 4cyl completely machined and assembled with over-size pistons, rings, matching crank kit, connecting rods, camshafts, complete cylinder head, all timing components and oil pump for $2436.00...i also found in my area
a person selling a gs 5spd with a blown head
for $300.00 for the tranny, suspension and just about anything needed for the
conversion..after that the only thing needed is the wire harness and ecu about $500.00
sure its alot of money and most people wont go that far but then again, most people wont beat my hyundai either...

Hey s-coupe. I was looking at some pics today and I think from what I can see on the pics of a 91 Plymouth Laser turbo is that it sits on the driver side of the car. My engine sits on the passenger side. Did I see right on the pic or do the engine's really match? I know someone who has a 93 Eagle Talon turbo AWD. I'm trying to hook something up with him so I can take a look under his hood and make a few measurements. When are you going to start your swap?

All I can say is be careful which motor you choose. If you go with anything that is 200 bhp plus then I seriosuly think you would need to make some mods to the suspensions set up. The chassis is good but not that good and I don't think that it could cope with that kind of power as is.

BUT even with say 160 bhp your looking at a 0- 60 time of around 6 secs which is pretty damn good. The Scoupe is a very light car so you don't need to use a motor that puts out huge amounts of power to get good results speed wise.

Something to think about.

Good Luck

Hey s-coupe. Could you send me a pic of your engine bay? I would like to see if it's the same as mine.

hey guys, My father owns an 89 Excel, and my mom used to have a 92? Scoupe, and they both had the SAME 4g15 1.5l motor that I currently have in my 93 Mitsu Mirage.

I have a VERY detailed list of "neccessaries" for swapping in the 4g63t motor into the Mirage, so it should be useful for you to. check it out under the FAQ at www.MirageTuner.com.

I'm soon to be getting a 94 Excel hatch, and I'm planning on turboing the 1.5l motor in it, then way down the road pulling that motor to put in my Mirage(family car) and dropping a 4g63t into the Excel. I think that with minimal work turboing the 1.5l is possible, at least to the mitsu 1.5l (keep in mind there ARE differences between the Mitsu 1.5l and Hyundai 1.5l electronically). I believe all you need is the ECU and MAP from the Turbo Scoupe (ignition may become a problem on the hyundai, however the Mitsu is distributor based), the exhaust manifold, larger injectors and a Rising FPR. this is VERY basic mods besides the obvious turbo, piping, and exhaust work.

hope some of this helps,
blytz

Oppps! You have the Mitz engine. In that case, you might be able to look at some parts for the Mirage/Colt 1.5L.

Better yet! Get the 2.0L Tib motor. This will give you the HP you are looking for.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I am doing some searching for you right now, I will get back if I can find any links for ya.

If you have a mitsu engine originally, you'll have to stick with a mitsu engine.

The only way he could swap a 2.0L Beta in is if he had a Hyundai motor originally.

The 4G63T would be a VERY good choice for a swap into an Excel.
