Unless I'm completely mistaken, the early Hyundai motors used the EXACT same mounts as the Mitsu motors and they faced the same direction. Newer Mitsu Mirage's do have a rotated motor, but that's a whole 'nother story!

In just comparing Excels/Scoupe to Mirage, I believe that all US spec pre 95 Excels and pre 97+ Mirages have very similar engine bays and that the 4g63t (we are all talking about the eclipse motor, right?) swap is HIGHLY feasible and has been done in both Excels and Mirages.

If you have a mitsu engine originally, you'll have to stick with a mitsu engine.

The only way he could swap a 2.0L Beta in is if he had a Hyundai motor originally.

The 4G63T would be a VERY good choice for a swap into an Excel.

I own a 94 excel. how hard would it be to swap a mitsu 2.0 16v turbo engine in...what adjustments am I guna need to make? obviously some suspension work. I was thinking mabey good shocks, struts and a lowering kit...15" alloys....for the engine....I was thinking...new ecu, harness...also mine is a 5 speed...will the tranny be able to handle the Hp gains? thanks..all info about a swwap to my car..would be great...what a SLEEPER it would be :)

I've got a 90 Excel. I was thinking about the whole 4g63 turbo conversion, but im currently putting $1000 into the transmission for a rebuild (5 speeds not cheap!) And the 4g63 wont bolt up to my trans. So instead of paying all that money to just throw it away when i change the engine, I'm going to NA tune the 1.5. If i do every possible mod that i can (with forged pistons, different cam, bored, ported and polished, NOS, quad throttle body.) I should be able to squeeze over 200 hp out of it. Thats good enough to smoke most anything around me.

new up date...my mechanic has been over, took the measurments, and says there is no problem getting the 4g63t into my 1992 s-coupe.the next thing is he asked if i want it fwd or
awd.mmmm? dont know.the people in my car club say go for it.i say go for it cause i want the car for the drag strip/quarter mile
awd will make it quicker off the line but it makes the car heavier.doesn't it take more power from the engine?is that the power i would have wasted peeling out?I need some opinions from people i dont feel are just trying to slow me down cause my hyundai is about to smack down on their hondaz.

the weight diffrence is worth it in the amount of HP increase.... your car will fly with the 2.0t!

I think that going AWD would be a waste of time, myself, but i think it's possible. I know of a guy that JUST got his 89 Mirage converted to AWD, TONS of custom work, but he is VERY mechanical himself.

Agreed. AWD would generally be a waste of money unless you wanted to use the car for rally or autocross.

Now that you put it that way, I would go for it. If you already have the AWD unit and the mechanic is only charging you that much for it.

Just do it .

Guess I want have to stress out about that mitsu/talon/eclipse thing since I'll probably just turn my Scoupe into a turbo Scoupe. Any good internet surfers know of any canadian salvage yard site anywhere on the net? Oh yeah! I almost forgot! I found an old site of a guy who put some performance in his Scoupe turbo. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/3387/scoupe.html
Take a look! He lists the mods he's put into it.
