I just got an email about this....

Recall Alert: HYUNDAI ACCENT '00 '01
Owner Notification Date: 11/20/2001
Number of Units Potentially Affected: 26,608
Component Description: FUEL:THROTTLE LINKAGES AND CONTROL
NHTSA Campaign Number: 01V346000

"Vehicle Description: Passenger vehicles equipped with 1.5 liter or 1.6 liter engines that were originally sold or currently registered in the states of Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. While driving at a steady throttle opening for an extended period of time during extremely cold ambient temperatures (below approximately -5 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity), moisture in the combustion chamber blowby gases may freeze and block the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and hose. If the PCV hose freezes, combustion chamber gases are forced through the breather hose into the air intake hose and then into the throttle body.

Moisture in the combustion chamber blowby gases may freeze inside the throttle body bore and throttle body idle speed control circuit resulting in the throttle valve not closing fully and a higher than normal idle speed when the accelerator pedal is released.

Dealers will install a new, relocated PCV hose and will additionally install a heated throttle body on the 2000-2001 Accents equipped with 1.5 liter engines that were produced through January 31, 2001. Owner notification is expected to begin during January 2002"

yes you are affected if you had your stock tb overbored and you fall within the range of vehicles given.

This problem is more likely to happen in Canada, this is when the original problem existed. Happened last winter here in Winnipeg, Manitoba where we had a few 1.5 accents valve cover literlally blowing up due to excessive combustion chamaer pressure because of frozen PCV valves, and also had problem with the throttle body of icing causing it to have a higher than normal idle.

Mods. "JAWS" license plates
Yeah its a Canadian thing. Had mine stick a full idle cause of this problem now that was fun step on the pedal and go no where. Had to switch off coast to the side and unstick it. The mod they gave also pumps warm air into the throttle to keep it from sticking.
