ok so what does this mean? I haven't had any probs with mine so far, but will the dealer get in touch WITH ME if something needs to be fixed? I don't know if anything is wrong with them b/c it seems to be working just fine. I've never done anything like this before so I'm a bit confused.

Look inside the door jam and it should tell you when the car was manufactured

I just phoned my dealership and yes there is a recall in Canada. Woohoo!
When I called them up and told them about this recall, he asked for VIN #, then he told me my car was recalled but the only reason they didn't call me was because they don't have the kit that will fix yet. It will be other week yet before they get it.
Thanks for the tip bstag!

Well, remember that recalls are vehicle specific. If most of the 2000 Tiburon are recalled for that problem, that doesn't mean that your car could be involved in that particular recall. Have your VIN # ready when you call your dealership or customer service and they will be able to tell you.

As far as common recalls on the 2000 Tiburon, the only common recall is the Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. Everytime you want to check in safety recalls for Canada, you have to visit Transport Canada. US has NTHSA, Canada has Transport Canada. For Canadians, you can visit here for the details of this recall.

God, I worked in the Automotive Industry for too long!!... heheh

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ for all those that don't believe this is mandated by goverment (For all of USA!) to be fixed.. Click on recalls and vehicle and if i need to explain how to click on the rest just close your bowser and call the Auto Safety Hotline toll free at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT to obtain information on recall.
Give them this number for the recall CAMPAIGN 01V345000
This is the date it was posted on the goverment site Report Date: November 15, 2001 12:17:44 PM

PS. Your dealer smokes crack and does not like doing anything for free.

here is some infoe for those who are no longer under warrenty and are woried about cost. The recall does come up for 1997-2002 tibbys.

Are There Any Limitations on My Right to Have My Vehicle Remedied at No Charge?

Yes. A limitation pertains to the age of the vehicle. In order to be eligible for remedy at no cost, the vehicle cannot be more than 8 years old on the date the defect or non-compliance is determined. Under the law, the age of the vehicle is calculated from the date of sale to the first purchaser. For example, if a defect is found in 1999 and a recall ordered, manufacturers are required to make the correction available at no charge only to cars purchased new in 1991 through 1999. However, consumers should realize that even though manufacturers are not obligated to remedy safety defects in older cars, a safety problem may still exist. If you receive notification of a defect on a vehicle older than eight years, take the responsibility to have your car repaired at your own expense. Eliminate any unnecessary risks.

Also, if the manufacturer challenges the agency's final determination of a safety defect, there is no obligation to remedy the defect while the case is in court. If you decide to take your vehicle in for correction after the agency's decision is made but before the case is finally decided and the court decides that the defect is not safety-related, Federal law does not require that the manufacturer reimburse you for the repair work. However, if the court upholds NHTSA's final determination, you may be entitled to reimbursement. Be sure to save all receipts and paperwork so that you can prove the repairs were made after the agency made its final determination.

Talked to service writer today. He was baffled that I knew already. He said they just found out yesterday. Supposedly notices are going to head out on the 10th of December. They should have the parts to fix it on the 13th or so. So I shamelessly plugged hp

I personally never had a problem with the tib seatbelts..
I'm clueless....
does everyone have the seatbelt height set to max? it might bind if you are tall but the seatbelt anchor thingy you can move up and down is low.
