Hey everyone. I'm thinking of dropping a Tiburon engine into the my 2k Accent, but before I actually go ahead and do this. I'm doing my homework and I'm looking to see who would be willing to do the work. I posted a similar forum on Hyundaituner.com. There someone mentioned that Tiburon might be the Mitsubishi 4g63, but doesn't know the difference between that engine and the DSM 4g63t. If anyone has any information on this or can help me out. I will be gladly appreciative. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I doubt the tib engine is a 4G63, because that is a Lancer engine. The tib engine is a Hyundai produced Beta engine, I don't know an engine code, but someone else might have the engine code. What I have been reading about the transfer is that it is easy, Hyundai I believe was thinking ahead and the engine bolts into the Accent nicely. The only thing is some of the wiring needs to be messed with in the wiring harness. I think the reason its so easy (from what I've heard) is that Hyundai is using the Beta engine in the Accent WRC and they probably built the Accent's engine bay just for the WRC. If Hyundai keeps it up, the Accent will be a fast little car in the next 5 years!

The LC (2K+) Accent engine bay was designed 2 inches wider and a little longer, and yes, it has been speculated this is to accomodate the 2.0L Beta (G4GF). Also, I'm not sure about the LC because I haven't really looked at it and measured it, but in the X3 (96-99) Accent, the engine <i>almost</i> bolts up. The front engine mount has to be altered a bit as the engine is a little longer, but other than that the engine bolts up. The tranny needs new mounts though. The wiring harness plugs right up, only one wire needs lengthening.

As for the 4G63, I highly advise against it as you could drop in the G4GF and turbo it and putting down more power for less money than it would cost to drop the 4G63 in.

Now humor me for a second, I have a 1999 GSi with the 1.5 SOHC/Automatic, I have been throwing the idea around for some time of dropping in a 2.0 Tiberon Engine w/ a 5 speed. Is this the 4G63 you speak of? I don't know the engine codes very well. How hard is the conversion from an Automatic to a 5 speed and if I do go that route how sturdy is the Tibby tranny? Is there an aftermarket unit availabe that anyone knows of?

The Tiburon motor is the G4GF. As for the tranny, it'll handle the power you can throw at it. Look into aftermarket clutches (there's quite a few of them) and possibly a lightened flywheel, but the tranny will hold easily 300+ hp.

Where can I find a copy of this article?

Another question I have is if i am replacing the Engine and tranny, how will my ECU react to this?

People lose their predjudices of a Hyundai when its just a blur....

What, all this information is either to vague or inconsitent.
On Fxtreme, i have been told that the tranny does line up, and that ECU and harness, in no way are easy to put in.
All i know is that the front mount needs modifications.
4Door, it would be great if this could b cleared up, cos then i wont need to be asking any more annoying questions.
BTW, is andyross willing to share the swap information with us?

First off, what you were told at FXtreme was wrong due to the fact that the only info they were going off of is what I told them, which they terribly misinterpreted. As for Andy Ross, he's writing me an article on how to do the swap. He'd be your best resource on any questions you have beings as he's actually done the swap (unlike everybody at FXtreme).
