When i race at an autocross event, my engine starts ticking loudly after a few runs. It sounds like a diesel engine. It stops after a while when driving normally but i would like to know what causes it and how i could prevent it from happening (i usually hear 3-4 diesel jokes per race).

Got rice?

This occurs because while you're taking the hard corners, the oil is sloshing around in your oil pan and the pump isn't always pumping oil as it should be.

Because of this, by the time you're done racing, the HLA's on your car are empty due to a lack of oil and you're hearing the valves clicking on the lifters.

Things you can do to stop/improve this.

make sure your oil level is at full. Do not OVERFILL, just make sure you're full up.

Let the car run for 30 seconds to 1 minute after each autocross run. This should allow the oil to settle in the pan and the pick up should pump the oil back to the HLA's and pump them back up.

Run motor flush through your car at every other oil change to make sure the oil passages to the HLA's are clear of gunk.

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.
