Anybody know what is better for the 1st generation tibbi as far as output and wear and tear on the engine? I hear the turbo kits give problems. what about a different manufacturer for a turbo kit. Also, where can I find a supercharger kit?

There is no lag on the alpine kit, but it doesn't make much HP as delivered either. You get the kit for $1900, but expect to spend another $2000 to $3000 to get it installed and running right.

For the Alpine supercharger, expect to spend $1300 for the supercharger, $500 for the install, and about another $500 to get it running right.

CAPA in austraulia makes a SC kit, and I think they can do a turbo as well...

Im lucky i guess, cuz i am not paying for the install, my buddy does it all for free....and no he is not a hack. to prove it he has a civic, with turbo and is running mid 13s, and also has yet to run it with both the turbo, and the nos. so i am lucky.

I'm getting the Alpine SC mainly because I want power....but not an insane amount. I'm more for show....but laying the smack down out on the streets is fun too. Plus I have always loved the sound that SC's make over turbo's. (No offense to the turbo owners)

Low-

The alpine SC really doesn't make much/any noise. It is barely noticable as not stock, even with a CAI.

The turbo on the other hand...that makes noise!

Actually, I bet to differ. I LOVE the way SC sounds when it takes off. Chris H has a SC and it sounds amasing. I would get a SC over turbo anytime, because it has power (not crazy power), cheaper and easy to maintain.

Turbos are really hard on the low end of an engine. I would go with the supercharger and yes most superchargers are less to mantain. Thats why you see more superchargers on planes . They provide consitant boost. So go with the super. p.s. i like the sound they make too

Silky, he was referring to the Alpine S/C which Yamaneko has, not S/C's in general.

Actually I emailed Alpine a few weeks ago and they quoted me $2200 for the SC. Theyre based in South Africa so shipping will cost ya a bit too...and I think you may be underquoting the install...probably a bit more than $500...but I guess it depends on who installs it...as far as which is better...Turbo is more efficent by using hot exhaust gas to create energy as opposed to a belt-drivin s/c...both have their pros and cons...neither is good for your engine no matter what manufacturers of these devices say...yes they make your engine more efficent, but you pay a price in terms of mechanical wear for that efficency...well thats my 2 cents...anyway here's the email i got from Alpine Developments:

I would not believe alpines HP claims. Of the 2 Apline supercharger installs that I know of.

1 is at 142 HP the other is at 159 HP.

The 159 HP also has headers, different cams and full exhaust.

If they are actually selling the SC for $2200, it better come with a guarantee of 200 Hp to the wheels like they claim.
