Ok I saw this site that told me I could hit 140 mph just by taking off a reed switch sensor that is a little glass tube 2mm long right behind the speedometer. I tried it and i dont see no damn glass tube. anyway have any ideas?

if your stick 140 is about the max you can go on the gearing, the vss is for autos.

This little trick does work people and I do advise you PLEASE BE CAREFULL! Removing your VSS limiter DOES give you a check engine light. I recommend you test your speeds on a race track or a very dead and open peice of road. Be safe please and happy racing!

( REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY TEMERIAL)Aight This is how you remove you VSS Limiter. You have to take out your intsurment panel first. There are two screws that are visible right above your panel, youll need a philps screw driver but not a long one because the steering wheel sometimes gets in the way. make sure your steering wheel is moved all the way down. then un screw the screws. next there are two screws on the buttom of the panel, but you cant see them unless you lift up that little flap of soft covering right above your steering column.unscrew those two screws. Now you can pull your black peice out. next you will see. 3 more screws. one on top and 2 on buttom. onscrew them and place them to the side. no pull your intsurment panel out slowly. look behind it because you can olny pull it out so far. there should be 3 wire clusters or wire harneses. carefully pull them out. remembering were they went before. ok next is kinda tricky if you look at your panel you took out there are black and clear clipy things that hold the Plastic see thru casing over the panel itself. becarefull and push these down one at a time and pull apart so u dont have to come back and do it over and over. Once this is complete you can get to your speedo Take off the black interface carefully and also take off the two little black peices. dont take off yout speedo face or gas and temp gages. Now turn your panel over. youll see a little black clyder like dives sticking out about a inch high. there should be two screws on the opisite side of eachother and then two little screws lined up next to each other going in a up and down way . undo these little screws ( all 4 ) and you speedo will come out make sure your going this on the ground or something so it dont fall and break!. It almost happened to me. Ok this is REALLY tricky I hope you have GOOD eyes cuz it took me a little while to find it cuz I did know wat i was looking for. the little glass tube is about "------" that long it looks like a fuse kinda. and its connected to a little circut board. Youll have to unscrew to little screws to get it off, mine were on the left side of the speedo. ( Remember I have 1997 Manual transmission. But im sure its all the same **** ) after you unscrew those screws you VSS limiter will be history just pull out the circut and thats all folks! put the two screws back in and put your vss somewhere. i just chucked the thing in my ash try ( I dont care ). put your speedo back into place and screw the screws back in snugly. place you black small interfaces on and put your big interface back on. Snap your clear cover back on the panel. Reconnect your 3 clusters. Put you panel back rescrew the 3 screws. place you black panel cover thingy back in and screw the buttom two first then the top two. Readjust your steering wheel. Start your car up and see if you have a check engine light on.If its not on yet it will be after you hit a certain speed or rpms. Keep in mine there are THREE speed sensors or govenors on your car. VSS, Tranny, and RPM, You took out the easy one. Go test you car somewhere but please becarefull. I was doing 135 like nothing down my dead freeway 215 its faster than it seems. So please drive safe and away from others Happy racing !!!!

An automatic Elantra can go faster than 105 before the limiter goes to work.. I got mine up to 120 with 4 guys in the car with me. I have never hit the limiter yet. I heard it goes into effect at 124mph.

My limiter hasn't hit yet either. But, I'm not always pushing it up to those speeds.

I usually keep it under 95. Average speed I drive is 80. But not lately because the Cops and the Highway Patrol had a big crackdown on I-15 last week. They put 3x as many officers on the freeway. I couldn't push it over 70.
Funny, but the sad thing is....
They are all still out there! I wonder for how long? They were only supposed to be out there for 1 week, but I guess they decided to extend it.

I have a 2001 elantra with the stock 2.0 and will hit 114. Thats pushing the engine revs to within 200 rpms or less till red line.
I found this out when I raced my friends 98 Monte Carlo Z, and beat him. His cuts out at 104 LOL. p.s. I have the 5 speed

My 97 lantra with 5 speed would hit 115 mph before it cut out.

Have had my 2001 up to 110 mph and it did not cut out. don't know where its cuts off yet

I have done 110 in my 2000 Elantra automatic without coming close to redlining. There aren't too many straight empty roads in Virginia, so I will probably leave the VSS in place. Besides, I'd just have to put it back when I bring my car in for inspection. The czech engine light will give me a 'rejected' sticker. If I was in West Virginia, it would be a different story though, they don't bother with vehicle inspections.

On the tib it's a little different, it's the big blue plug that goes into the tranny, that and they are geared limited on 5speeds
