On weight reductions every 50lbs you can lighten your car is worth only a tenth faster in the 1/4 mile. Although reducing the weight of your car is cheaper then most performance parts. Here is a list of weight reduction ideas that range from the sane to the nuts.

Here are some sane ideas

1. Spare tire and jack 30lbs

2. mat in trunk 5lbs

3. under the knee plate under the steering wheel is a piece of metal 3lbs

4. taking out the sound deadner under the carpet 20lbs

5. all of the under carage plastic and mud flaps and fender plastic 20lbs

6. taking out the heat sheild/tin above the exahust 10lbs

7. taking out the front and rear crash 30 lbs

8. taking out glove box 10lbs

9. taking out front and rear seats 45lbs

10. swithing to lighter rims; because of rotating mass every pound lighter is worth 9lbs.
Example if you went to a wheel that was 10lbs lighter you would save 90lbs times four wheels = 320lbs lighter. 320lbs lighter according to the rule on reduction = 7 tenths faster in the 1/4. The reverse is true if you go to wheels that are 10lbs heavier you'll run 7 tenths slower.

with 1 through ten added together = 500 lbs which = 1 second faster in the 1/4

know for the nuts reductions

11. carbon fiber or fiber glass hood -30lbs. some race tracks will let you run with out a hood

12. fiber glass or carbon fenders -30lbs

13. fiber or carbon trunk or hatch -30 lbs

14. lighter battery some people use batteries from snow mobiles -20lbs

15. switching to lighter seat ( you can diy your own fiber glass seat) -20lbs

16. taking out ac, heater and all componets 45lbs

17. - power stering 30 lbs

18. gutting interior 50lbs - head liner carpet plastics seat belts

19 cutting out random extra metal 50lbs.

20. switching to lexan instad of glass - 80lbs

21 taking out crash bar behind dash -20lbs

22. minus air bags and componets 20 lbs

23. switching out as many bolts as posible to titnum -50lbs

24. switching floor to aluminum - 100lbs

25. wiper blades and motor 20lbs

26. taking out wind sheild washer box 5lbs

27. taking outn radio and speakers 25lbs

11 through 27 added together = another 627 lbs + 500lbs =1127 which = 2.2 sec faster

so a 16.5 to 14.3

oh yeah as another rule of thumb gasoline weighs 2.4 lbs per gallon so the less gas the less weight.

a good point about the gasoline. ive tricked a few people with that fact before. if i knew it was going to be a close race, id buy my opponent a tank of gas before to weigh him down, and i would race with as little gas as possible. lol. weight is a major factor when every tenth of a second counts. however, i dont do that anymore because of the ridiculously high prices now.

Weight reduction taken to a bit of an extreme, there.
