Greetings form California. I just purchased an "02 Elantra GLS...5 days ago....around 12,500, standard
other than mup-guards and floormats.
It's a 5 spd. I am open to any cheap
mods that won't screw up the car or the warranty, but would like to start with the basics like a little weight reduction. Does anyone know how much the stock rims on a GLS weigh? I would like to have a starting point when considering a lighter rim. Suggestions....in the
budget/reasonable range? Also, I have not attempted to weigh the spare and jack...I would guess about 50 lbs...anyone know? This is my first post, in case that wasn't already obvious.

Sup man welcome to the site, Your stock wheels are pretty heavy, Not sure on excat lbs. But if you wanna buy some light weight wheels a set of volk te 37s weight around 12 lbs but cost 400 bucks a wheel, racing harts 16s are around 10 lbs, not sure about the price but light weight wheels will cost you some bank, I striped my interior and did a ton of weight reduction on my car, Im taking out my powersteering aswell soon, look threw the elantra forums. Your wheel and jack are pretty heavy, Im thinking around that much lbs aswell.

Thanks Lantra, I appreciate the feed-back. I've got to save to get anything really light...I'll keep shopping.

If you want to reduce the weight of the car substantially, you'll have to either spend lots of $$$ or sacrifice your comfort, both is even better. First way, buy lightweight wheels. If all you want is GO and you don't care about SHOW, get the same size as stock. New 5Zigen FN-01R rims are out. They are featherlight. Only 4.8 lbs in 15' size. Also get lexan, carbonfiber hood, fiberglass trunk. Whatever u can afford.
Another way is to take out all those luxury items from the car that "you don't really need." Lantra can give you many suggestions on that. Strip your interior, remove a/c, stereo, etc.
Do both and your car will be superfast.
