stock supra TT = 320hp. Stock TT + about 2k in mods = 400- 450 hp. TT + single turbo conversion = 475-1300 (that isn't a typeo)hp.
course anything over 600hp and you'll need to strengthen the internals, but the block is just fine, even to CRAZY boost levels. i love those cars. possibly the most horribly overengineered cars in the history of man...
haha. what does a 400hp supra and a 600hp supra have in common though.... 11 second time slips! haha. it takes alot of skill to launch a turbo car, must less a single huge slug. but there are some guys cutting 1.3sec 60ft times w/ big fatty slicks and some crazy driving skills. moral of the story, you better know how to drive if you want to squeeze performance out of supras.
but anyway. i bet you could get over 250hp on an elantra... bore that 1.8 out to 2 lieters. but a big enough turbo on it and strenghten the internals and i bet you could be at 300-400
basically you can make anything fast... just depends how much money your willing to throw at it.
but if your looking for a fast car to work on, that's small. i would look at something other then a front wheel drive car, in general once you start throwing huge hp numbers at FWD cars they tend to torque steer like crazy, and it's really really hard to luanch, or get good 60 ft times (60 ft = the most important number in how well your going to do down the rest of the strip)
i would suggest a 3rd gen Toyota MR2, or a Nissan 240sx for massive hp numbers out of a RWD 4cyl cars. both of them are a total blast to drive. i haven't driven a 240 with an sr20det (the jdm engine you swap for if your serious about power), but even with the stock ka20de the 240 is fun. and the mr2 is fun fun =)
sorry about writing another book. just my opinions
