hi guys,
i swap a 4G63 in to my tibby...currently still running the original turbine, i.e the EvoIV's...is TD06 i guess...
i'm looking for a bigger turbo kit to fit in to that car but from my fren's opinion, there is not enough space to fit the bigger turbine since the one now is so near to the radiator....
just wondering, have you guys got any idea, or even seen it b4 what's the biggest turbine that fitted in to Tibby and how they did that??>..hope to hear some reply from you gurus out there....thanks in advance....<img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0><img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

If you are using the standard turbo still, then you most likely have a TD06 big 16G turbo. which is a fairly decent turbo as it is. most eclipse owners use this turbo as an aftermarket upgrade. There are different wheels availalbe for this turbo including, 17C, 18G and 20G which use Td06 housings mostly of a 7cm size to fit the enlarged wheel. To view some of these look at
http://www.turbochargers.com
under the mitsubishi section i think.

As a point of interest, i went from a T25/Td04 standard eclipse hybrid to a Garret T3/T4 aftermarket turbo.

You can see the pictures on my page at;

http://dsm20.topcities.com/engacc.htm

and

http://dsm20.topcities.com/engacc2.htm

Getting the larger turbine wheel, will give you greater power, but in most situations you will see increased lag, I have gone to far for my setup, and will be changing the turbine setup to a small housing (from .78 to around .62), hopefully, the shaft and turbine wheel will still fit the .62 housing, and i won't have to worry about porting it. you on the other hand, will most likely have to put the 18g or 20G wheel, and port the housing.

I have built a Tibby with a Hybrid Turbonetics pump running a compressor housing one size smaller then the T66! The pictures of the AR70 housing can be found here:-

You run an internal wastegate setup? what pound boost do you run at the track?, and what does it creep to? What 1/4 mile does the car do?

Yes the turbo uses an internal wastegate at present and has a few mods to it to prevent boost creep. She does not creep at all with 0.5bar boost and at 0.9bar she is also very stable and shows no signs of creep.

We have not run any track tmes with her as yet, but at 0.5bar boost an M3 is a mid-day snack, and at 160km/h it becomes a waste of fuel to carry on :) I estimate a 14.0 dead to high 13's second 1/4mile at 0.5bar boost.

With 0.9bar traction is a big problem, and with a decent pull away sub 13's shouldn't be too difficult to achieve! To give yuo an idea, in a 1km stretch I reach the limiter in 5th gear relatively easily!

This M3...is it the new M3's or the old M3's or the Euro Spec M3's?

Its just a matter of about 30-70hp thats all.

(about 250, 290, 333hp roughly per one)

Uh...tony5050-

How did you mount the Mitsu 4g63 in a tiburon engine bay? The tranny is on the wrong side, and the engine mounts do not even come close to lining up. That must be one piece of custom work.

Why do you need a larger turbo? What boost level are you at now? You can always get your current turbo re-built and re-trimed. (http://www.turbochargers.com/)

If you need more space between the exhaust manifold and the radiator, you can try replacing the stock fans with slimline fans from Flex-a-lite, you can also move the radiator several inches foward if you do not have AC, or simply replace the radiator with a smaller unit.

Actually, I think the latest EVO engines are mounted on the same side as ours. Tranny on the driver's side (well, for american drivers that is ;) ). So the swap should be easier this way. Older 4G63 have tranny on the passenger's side, which makes it a nightmare for swapping...

Yeah, the Lancer Evolution 4, 5, 6 and 7 sit on the same side as the tiburon. it is most likely using a lancer n/a or tiburon box from reading this post - http://www.hyundaiperformance.com/forums/snitz/topic.asp?a=&t=4860
I am interested to know what top speed you n/a tiburon guys can do in 5th in a manual gearbox, as tony states he can do 273km/h. Better Still, the info states it is an automatic gearbox. <img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

Has the final drive been changed in the gear set ratios? Please provide more info.

Smiley,

In S.A there are three M3's, we call them the 2 door with a 3.0 210KW engine, the 4 door with a 3.2 232KW engine, and then the new latest M3.

I have not yet had the opportunity to beat up the newer of the lot, but both of it's predecessors are easy bait.

DSM, my god, was there no other way to fit the intercooler? No offense, but that just don't look right.

You'd be the first who doesn't like it so far. Would you like to see it mounted on the roof?<img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

The idea of intercooler flow design is to have the shortest track length of pipe, with the least inclinded number of bends to create maximum horsepower, the bend on the passenger side is designed like that for this reason. The intercooler is large, it will not fit inside the bar, and it is not meant to look stealth, that is why i replaced the supra item, the bar is temporary until the custom item goes on.

<img src=/images/forums/snitz/finger.gif width=33 height=15 border=0>Uh Uh...biggest turbine I've heard of is a T108, there was a richboy Skyline driver here who boasted that he was running 2 of them with a Nismo longblock. Guess what? he was telling the truth! KAABOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! hehehe...

The biggest I have seen in a Tibby without moving things around or cutting is a t3/t4 hybrid and a smaller RX6 IHI turbo. The big boys run huge T66 or larger equivalent series turbos. But this requires cutting the hood or moving the radiator to allow clearance.

A US Spec 2000 Tib will max out at 143mph (dyno tested) in 5th gear (at rev limiter). To go beyond that you would have to change the gearing of the transmission...which UFB does have the means to do so.

We have actually been testing a 270km/h true speed 5th gear and found it to be a little bit too much in the sense that when chaging from 4th into 5th at lower RPM, the 5th gear's RPM drops too low. We will not increase the RPM limit to protect the engines, so the longer ratio is required.

It looks like we will be going with a gear that will be able to achieve a maximum of 255 - 260km/h true speed. Thats about 159mph to 162mph - Once we tested and broken one of these gears (and WE WILL break it!) and they prove to be fit for use and relaible - we will introduce group buy offer of around $220.00 for the input and main shaft 5th gears.

Obviously the more interest - the better we will be able to manufacture the gears for, as these are made on CNC machines.
