Have any of you noticed when your racing or just screwing around, if you spin your wheels they hop like a jackrabbit. I was screwing around with my friend and I juiced it and the wheels start to hop and the struts bang very loud, how the hell do you prevent that?

Noodle Boy - LOL!

First thing to try is to back off the throttle a bit and get right back into it.

Second thing to try is replace the crappy stock tires and get some good traction tires, the more expensive the better - LOL! Actually this will keep you from worrying about wheel hop 'cause you don't want to be leaving $20.00 on the raod every time you light 'em up!

When you get wheel hop that meen's your letting off the clutch to fast and not giving enough throttle. so either let the clutch slipp a little as you launch or give it more gas. remember practice makes perfect.

ya i noticed wheel hop on my 15" stockies, but have never felt it on my 17s, but this past weekend i put my 15s on the front for shits and giggles, and i started messin around, the first couple times i dumped the clutch i notice it, but then the tires got heated up and no more hop!!! wow, the 15s made my car lower by about 3/4" to 1" lol, so low i couldnt get the car into my garage!!! so i changed them back! and this was at 1am. talk about changing the wheels in about 10 mins, not exactly nascar times but hey that is with a friggen tire iron! lol

haha

wheel hop is where your tires are just on the edge of traction, so they grab for a second, but your driveshaft is still spinning too fast (because your still hitting the gas), so it rips the tires loose again. then the wheels come back down, grab, and then get ripped free again.

wheelhop is the enemy of 18t's, a few people have snapped driveshafts and totally pooched spider gears with way too much wheelop (pretty typical for 240+tq to the crank). we usually take care of it with stiffer motor mounts. if your still getting wheelhop after motor mounts then better tires might be in order.

fwiw, when you peel out you have just about 0 traction, and when you wheelhop your just on the edge of complete traction. so giving it more juice when you launch isn't going to help you too much... you juice it when you've got wheelhop and you will probly just go back to wheel spin (0 traction)

those are just my thoughts. it might be a little different for tiburons, but i would look for an aftermarket company who makes a stiffer motor mount, that might do the trick of the stock tibby mounts are kinda mushy like the 18t's are.

Ok, 1st of all it's not on stock tires it's on 16 inch rims with Avon zz1's, which are kick ass tires and cost $155 each. 2nd even if I'm rolling and I puch it they will spin and sometimes hop, I do have lowering springs but that has nothing to do with it. When I test drove a toyota celica GTS I lit the tires up and heard the worst tire hop ever, it sounded like I tore the struts off the friggen car.

Two things help wheel hop. More power, or less power.

More power will break the wheels free and they will just spin. No more annoying CLANK CLANK CLANK...but not the fastest way to go.

LESS POWER will allow the wheels to grip, and stay gripped...then stopping wheel hop, and speeding your way down the track.

Leave it to Random to Needlessly complicate things.

I got wider tires, strut tower brace, and stiffer springs to reduce wheel hop. The best fix for it would be motors mounts, but no one makes them for th Tibby

better engine mounts will help with wheel hop.

the torque used to moved the motor back and forth when getting on and then off the throttle. Is adding an extar dynamic to the power transition to the wheels.

So eliminating that will help you
