Who wants another 30 HP to the wheels N/A?

Shark Racing is considering carrying a Cam and Modified ECU set that has been show to produce 30 HP at the wheels on Korean beta engines. However the cost would be between $1400 and $1600.
For Europe, South America, and Asia, this would just replace your stock ECU, and just replace your stock cams.

For USA folks, it will require either a conversion to MAP sensor rather than MAF to use the Korean Modified ECU, or use an S-AFC rather than the modified ECU.

For you folks that must get emissions tested, I'm fairly certian that this ECU/CAM combo will NOT PASS emissions at idle. The Korean Spec ECU would NOT have OBD-II.

The cost would be lower if you went with just the cams and the S-AFC, but, part of the gains are in altering of timing, which the S-AFC cannot do, so it would be more like 15 to 25 WHP with just the SAFC and the Cams. Our testing will show us how it does.

If the testing only shows 15 WHP with the cams and SAFC, we will be producing a MAF to MAP conversion kit, so you can use the modified ECU.

Shark Racing would like to know, how many people would be interested in spending $1400 to $1600 on this modification. With the new Intake Manifold for the MAF to MAP conversion, add another $200 (approx).

i would be very intrested.........how would this also work with the alpine supercharger??? it should help it out more ....right??
I might me interested in the cam the most... I have to deal with emissons so I am sort of S.O.L., but the Cam and S-AFC would probably efficent for me.

What are the Cam Specs and are they aftermarket cams or just the SE cam??

This setup would NOT work with Forced Induction. N/A cams are very different than Forced Induction cams.

This mod is for Normally Aspirated engines only. (It would work with Nitrous)

It is the timing/overlap of the cams that would screw up emissions. There is too much overlap to pass emissions at idle. Even without the Korean ECU, just the cams themselves would screw you emissions wise.

Well the emissions testing around here changed. They plug directly into your computer now and only check your gas cap. BUT, if the ECU isn't OBD-II you're not gonna pass anyways. SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOo I'd be interested in seeing any gains with the cams and the S-AFC. Please keep us updated.
the cams and SAFC would be nice for the tib but use an apexi ITC(ignition timing control) and it will work in conjunction w/ the SAFC.
I would definitely be interested in the Cam!

yup this would work
as for emissions
you can just run super lean right before you get there

$hit happens...
I definetly think this sounds like something I would like to buy. You said it was 'shown' to produce 30hp, where did you get that from?

line em up ;)

random any new word on this? any testing been done. has the project been abandoned?

also i have some questions .... because you said that some of the gains are found by altering timing which the S-AFC cannot do. do you think that with a S-AFC and ITC (if you can find one now .... or some similiar unit as this) and some good tuning on your part that you could reproduce the same gains that you see with the modifed ECU?

Also as it stands if you have the S-AFC and the cams alone would you still not be able to pass emissions in the US? Or would you be fine using the S-AFC and the cam and be emission legal?

The company that makes the "Cam and ECU" kit does not want to split them up.

They still wanted $1100 or $1200 for the cams, and that is just too much damn money for cams.

Yes, the ITC and S-AFC would roughly approximate the changes to the ECU, but for the cost of those two items, you might as well go with a HalTec, MoTec or Tec-II. You'd get better performance and not be handicapped by the limitations of the 2 devices.

Properly tuned, you should be able to pass emissions with 260 degree cams, 270's are streching it, but it's possible.

so is this company the only source for these cams?? and what the hell is so special about them that they would want that much for the cams alone?

any specs on the cams that they were offering?
They would not part with specs on the cams, or the ECU. That is why Boogyman stopped dealing with them.

They wanted $1400 for the ECU/Cams set, SR upped the price to $1500 for ECU/CAMs to cover shipping and his $$$. They wanted roughly $1000, or $1100 for the cams, and no they would NOT part with the specs for the cams for fear SR would copy them (as if you could just copy cams from a spec sheet)(you can't).

So it is back to the drawing board with this mod. The HVE Cams are reported to be good for 10%...so that should be another 14 HP.(more or less)...the HVE cams are 256 degree. I know there are 26x degree cams and 272 degree cams available in korea, so I sent Boogyman searching for decent cams at a decent price. Keep your fingers crossed

Yeah, but remember most of us have to pass smog - so no go .
Just something to remember inbetween drools.

Random, I know this still in the works, but here's a question for you.

On a 2.0L Beta, doesn't the latest version of that engine use a MAP sensor? You could also install the solid shim head. That could prove to be quite an NA combo, if it worked with a setup like this.

No emissions in Minnesota anymore

Thinking of going there.

That is way too much money...I would just use that $1400 on a down payment for a 2003 Tib!! Doesn't HDKautosport have cams for the Tib?

Has Shark racing found an ECU chip for the Tibs computer, you know the piggyback ones...so you can avoid reprogramming.
