Today went to my girlfriends house. Was there like 5 minutes watching Seinfeld when the door bell rang and there was this old scruffy guy at it. He said he hit a newer black sports car. He said he thought he only hit the tire but wanted the owner (me) to check it out. I looked and the rear right, in front of the tire is crunched in about 4 inches. Atleast it is a smooth crunch but still very noticable. He was a taxi driver who backed into my car, I told him I was glad he didn't drive off and that alot of people would have and then I thanked him. anways, we did the whole police things and all and the cop said he wouldn't be suprised if it cost a couple thousand dollars to fix. I am not suprised since the crunched part is the same body panel as the roof and goes all the way to the other side. I think I could also make a fair amount on it by getting all my estimates at the very expensive places in town and then just getting it done by a normal place, hopefully making me a few hundred.

Anyone know if a dent about 4 or 5 inches in is possible to pull and make look brand new or are they going to have to replace the whole body piece?

I think it can be pulled out. My friend had a 2001 Civic with the bumper bashed in. The body shop popped it back out and used wet sand to fill in the cracks and it looked pretty good.

2klosho is the authority about this. Take his two cents over anyone elses. I remember him posting about this for someone over at TeamSR

They are most likely only going to pull and fix the dent usually the only way they will replace the panel is if it's cheaper then paying the bodyman to repair it.

But I don't think it would be cheaper for them to replace the panel b/c you have to pay someone to remove the glass then you have to pay the bodyman to cut the panel out along the tack welds. Then he has to reweld in the new piece and possibly repair some small dents with bondo b/c panels do come in with some dents from transporting them. Is the damage on the lower rocker panel and the rear quater panel in front of the tire. If so they will more then likey just replace the rocker panel and repair the quater panel.

What color is your car?

That will be the main thing when they repaint the car. Usually the color is always a little off b/c you have a scale that tells you the amount of each color you will need to add to make that color paint. And it never fails that you will always go a little over on aleast one of the colors. Expect the first one but if they know how to blend the paint well then you shouldn't be able to tell.

Here is one more suggestion if the damage isn't to high up on the quarter panel you could take the insurance money and buy a set of turby sideskirts.

Hey,

I had just about the same thing happen to me. Except a plow guy hit my tib in the rear quarter a day after I bought the car. The total cost for the snow guys insurance company was about 13 hundred. It does also depend on whether your dent has any creases on the inside. If there are creases then the dent wont be able to be pulled unless you actually want bondo on your car. I just had the body shop replace the whole piece on the insurance companies money.

Well, I got great news. Last week I went around getting quotes from everyone. The highest was 1400 the lowest was 500. The place that I originally planned on having it done was 700, they supposedly are the best bodyshop in town. So I turned in the 1400 quote and the insurance called and they are sending me a check for 1400 and I will get it fixed at my favorite place and make 700$ off the deal. Almost wish this would happen every few weeks to keep me making money. Also, they are giving me a rental car!!!

i was just in a huge accident where my entire front end was bashed. they replaced the whole thing and other little stuff and it cost almost 8,ooo dollars when they were completely done. it looks really awesome though. lantra looked at it and he said you wouldnt be able to tell if you tried. the only thing was yesterday i did a total wash on my car like down on my knees washing the bottom of my car and i noticed that the bottom is scratched to hell and my front license is broke and my hubcab is split like tottaly split. i was sooooo pissed. although it is all minor stuff it still sux. anyways alli am really trying to say is wherever you take it make sure they get everything.
