Anyone have some ideas on how I can reduce the weight of the rear hatch. I replaced the rear windshield with plexiglass,. I thought of fiberglass but it loks too hard to get it right. It's for a race car.

hey nice car man....i noticed you still have the factory spoiler on there.....start with that...LOL

I'd say cut out the frame in the hatch and leave the shell...looks like you have a pretty solid cage in there so i wouldnt worry about strength too much.
Rust is a nice natural weight reduction lolllll
Kidding here :p
Not a hyundai this guy has dropped signifigant weight from his DSM. might be able to use some of his Ideas...

I just wanted to say nice car.

The only thing that I can think of, to reduce weight, is maybe replace the fuel tank with an alumium one.
Great car and racing. Maybe making a fiberglass hatch, I have seen them on x3 drag race cars. I don't know if rules allow you to do that though. Removing undercarriage rubber coating/rust protection, I am sure you have stripped/gutted your interior right? oh! maybe a custom aluminum Dash. Reducing drag on rear bumper by making holes on it (I've seen it on drag cars don't know if it helps)
I just threw what I could think of, I am sure others could come up with something too.

WARNING! Haters in 5, 4 , 3, 2...(hahahaha don't be discouraged by them please!!!!)

GoOdLuCk!!
NOTE FOR EVERYONE: I would not replace the hatch with fiberglass or cut out the structure unless I had a cage in the car. The x3s are way too flexible and need rigidity.

Looks like you have a cage. I love you car by the way. I'm happy someone has taken the x3 this far. I'm giving up on mine, but it's not because I didn't love it.

May I ask why you are trying to reduce weight out of the hatch? I'd think for coner weighting vs the front you'd want a little extra weight out back.

Me, I would just gut the struture and call it a day. The x3 is made from really thin steel (close your door hard and watch it), so I don't think fiberglass would give you that much more of a saving vs the cost and time to produce.

Wasn't a comment toward you. I just wanted to make it a little more predominate.

No intent to offend.
