How did you discover hyundai??

I had an 87' LTD (also known as big peice of monkey dung) I took a freind to pick theres up, it had hit a curb violently and damaged its rim, i talked to the sales guys after i droped him off and test drove one. I thought it was ok and bought it the next week. A month later i hit 1,500 miles and decieded to test it against my bestfriends Grand Am GT (modified) and i would be danged if i didn't stay nose to nose with him (He had distroyed me in my last three cars 82' 280zx, 95' Nissan pickup, and the LTD). From that day i have never doubted my desition to buy my Accent and have fallen in love with it. I never thought i would get as much stock performance out of a car with the brand new sticker price of 10,500 along with its level of economy.. My story isn't that romantic but is yours?

well i had a 91 civic hatch and it blew up cause it was a pos and i was supposed to get a 96 prelude but my dad thought it would be a good idea to buy a car for me, and bought me an accent. i was pissed off, the car had pink pin stripes on it and i refused to drive it off the lot unless the dealer removed them. but as everyone can see it has grown on me...

Rudy's got very similar story to mine....I'd never thought I'd buy a Hyundai. I was at work at Rite Aid when my mom picks me up from work and shows me a brand new silver accent in the driveway. She dumped the $2500 I saved and put a down on the accent. I was mad as hell for a week because she bought me a Hyundai. Told her I wanted a silver hatchback, (meaning a 91 crx newer year than my 88 crx I had before, but blew transmission and junked it). I got what I wanted I guess, it was silver and a hatchback, just not my crx. It grew on me after a couple months. Kinda glad my mom did what she did.

I bought mine from a friend, he bought it in the end of '94 right when the new body style was released and when I saw it I couldn't believe it was a Hyundai. The front bumper looked like it had an aftermarket kit on it already. I always liked it. So when his wife got pregnant and he needed some qiuck cash I offered to pay off his loan ($2,400) It was perfect timing, I had just crashed my other car during the Super Street tour '98 (Chevy Lumina w/ 18's and custom paint) and needed a car. I got $4,500 from my insurance from the accident, me and my dad split the cost on a '79 Corvette and the $2,400 went towards the Accent. I planned on using the Accent as a daily driver as I restored the Corvette, but like everything else I do, I just couldn't leave the Accent stock. So now it's turned into the money pit that it is now and the Corvette is still waiting for new paint, motor, interior, rear, etc....I also have a '77 Monte Carlo with a custom targa top sitting in the back yard rotting away and a '64 Chevy Impala in the front yard doing the same. I just can't seem to focus on one car at a time

Oh well, atleast I'll be able to keep myself busy with all my projects well into old age. Maybe I'll have one complete car by the time I retire

Sorry so long

I actually was shopping for some used cars... but then my mother insisted I get a new car, because I would be driving back and forth from college, and she worried about my car breaking down. So I got the accent for the price I would have paid for more expensive used car. So, now I have it and I'm going to hook-up the s*it out of it!

Let's see, I had an '89 Dodge Colt my parents gave me that was the slowest thing this side of Mars. Soon after, we aqcuired a wrecked '95 Accent GL (Pink LOL). We fixed it and our total investment into the car was about $750. About 6 months after I was getting sick of that car (only had 32,000 miles, but needed a tune-up, bad) so I sold it for $1500. I blew that money and a few months later I was at my local Hyundai dealershit where they were having a closeout on '99 Accents because the 2000's just came in. Well, back then I didn't like the LC Accent and had been looking at a '98 GSi they had (which was sold), so I decided to take a look at the '99s. I have always thought the 2-doors looked like lopsided eggplants (still do ) so I decided on a 4-door. I took it for a drive, was pretty impressed, and came back the next day and bought it. A few months later I found Fxtreme, HVe, and the usual, and here I am today ---> .

2 days before going into the military my bright yellow 87(?) Chevy 1.5 caught on fire.

2 days before graduation from the military my parents called and said they had a 89 Hyundai Excell 4door hatch waiting for me. I though oh NO! All the way home I kept imagining a plymouth colt but was pleased to see the excell when they gave it to me.

I didnt know cars back then and didnt care to so I just drove it untill it died, went through 3 91 excels and finally got my 99 Accent. Not sure what it was but something about this car turned on that little "i must make it my own" switch in all our heads and thus we have my little toy :)

I crashed my 87 Samurai so I went lookin. I almost bought a red 91 Civic, but it was sold right after I looked at it. So I went on searching all day. I say a 96 Accent GL my mom liked but I didn't think anything of it, was more interested in the honda accord. But didn't like it so went on. Found the Excel at a Truck dealership with 70K on it so I was like "AH! Well I think I want this baby." So I drove home with it.

My first car, a '91 Mercury Capri, was never known for its reliability once it got toward 100,000 miles. Mine was at 8X,XXX miles and one day in February the tranny started acting up. So i limped it home, and started looking for a new car. I went to Autotrader.com and used the decision guide. Only cars that i could afford (under $10,000) with what i wanted (5speed, tach, a/c, some aftermarket potential) was the accent, minus the aftermarket bit.
Then upped the price to under $15,000. All those cars were base models (mirage, impreza, civic, echo, tib(not base),focus, ZX2 and 323). I test drove the accent first, and fell in love with it. The ride was firm, almost sporty. The shifter actually had some feel to it, and it had MANY standard stuff. Then i tested a focus (rode like a truck imo plus a POORLY designed interior/shifter location) and a Mirage (about the same as the accent minus the tach, shifter feel, and peppy engine (it was a 1.5L SOHC mirage).

It was down to the mirage and accent. Mirage rode better, but felt sluggish and vague. Accent had great value, but its reputation made its reliability suspect. Then i looked at the bottom line. The mirage was a bare bones car (no stereo or tach, even on 5spd) for 13XXX while the accent was loaded standard and optional a/c for 10500. I drove away with the accent, and have never looked back (except on a warm sunny evening with a clear sky, just wanting to throw the top down and cruise in my capri).

Well, I was in a dark blue 1982 Chevy Malibu Classic. One day it just died......didn't want to start at all. So, I went looking. I went to a Chevy dealer(in hopes of financing a new Chevy). But I ended up in the used car lot, where I found it......my gold 1989 Excel GL hatch. It had only 14,300 miles on the odo. I loved it from first sight! I test drove it....awesome driving car(compared to the Malibu, which had the 2.8ltr. 2BBL V6 that had 102hp, a lot more get up and go for a four....probably lighter
than the Malibu). So, I told them about my other car and they said even trade. I'm like what was that? They said even trade....I guess they wanted to fix the Malibu up. So I got a great deal out of Laffin Chevrolet in South River NJ. Oh, and a cool sticker on the back that says:

'Stop cryin', try Laffin. Laffin Chevrolet, South River NJ'

I wanted my first car to be a honda civic or crx, I was 16 and my moms friend she worked with was goin away to college, he had a 89 silver hyundai excel. He got it from someone who had put a system in it and neon underlighting, the kid had no idea about that stuff, he thought it was a part of the car, so he sold it to me for 300.00 with 24,000 miles on it, and ever since then I was hooked! When it died on me, I had to settle for a ford contour, I only had that for 6 months till I got rid of it, it was a lemon, and then I got myself a used 97 hyundai accent, with again, lol, 24K on it!

My first car was an 89 3dr Excel. Got it when I was 17, and I loved it. I paid like $1200 for it, but the thing that pissed me off was I had to put (all in all) about $2400 by the time the damn thing finally died (1 year later, while I was on the PA turnpike no less... long story). Swore to myself that I would never get another Hyundai, as long as I lived. Next car was a 88 VW Fox. Damn it if it wasn't the pepiest car I ever drove. Love that car too, but then one day it died (and I mean died, just wouldn't even turn on). Had that car for 1 year as well. That nite, I went out and got my 94 Honda Civic EX. Man I thought I was the ****, got me a honduh. Well I was young, didn't know much, lol. Well I bought the Honda in 99 for $10k w/63k on it. I was workin in PA and livin in NJ, so in about 6 months it went from 63k to 98k. So needless to say I was rackin up the miles. Well I finally moved up to PA in 2000, and come 2K1 I decided that I wanted a new car. So I searched, and searched, and test drove and rest drove. Didn't have much to work with, car was only worth $4k, I had $7k left to pay on it, and it had 115k on it. Well after looking at everything from a ford ****us to a Lexus IS300, I finally came upon my baby... a brand spankin new 2001 Hyundai Elantra GT. Remember what I said about never wanting another Hyundai.... LOL. Once I test drove the car, I never thought twice about it. Thats my little car story... heh

Peace

My first car was a 1965 Chevy Corvair, but i was young and inexperienced so i accidentally drive it head long in to a parked car , my next car was a 1984 dodge rampage (i like to be unique) but unfortunately when i was driving home from school one night i got broadsided by a drunk driver and flew through the intersection over a curb and landed in a tree. A few days after that i was walking to work and i happened upon my 97 silver accent gt in the corner of a mitsu lot. I was 2 hours late to work cuz i bought it right then and there

These were all alright until I purchased an 85 Audi 5000S in 93... I paid 3 grand for it and never put more than 1200$ per year to keep it running. In 1999, I converted it to a 5-speed and I fell in love with it all over again. Last year I started having massive electrical problems... The car's ignition circuits fried itself over a period of 3 weeks, from the distributor all the way back to the computer. I was averaging 700-1000 miles a week to see my girlfriend on the weekends, so I wanted something that was new, inexpensive, and predictable in a NY blizzard. Test drove a 2K Accent and was satisfied... 65000 miles later, the car has grown on me.

I actually annoy one of the guys at work who purchased a new Audi A4 last year... He can't understand why I still drive the car like an Audi. I guess he's annoyed because I can still keep up with him in traffic...

Ok here goes mine. When I was 16 I got my first car, my rents gave me their **** box Nissan Micra. Dad was supposed to buy me a car but instead gave me that one so I asked for a stereo (400$ CAD Panasonic). Ended up selling the car when I was 17 for 300$ (the car had no more 5th, and the tranny was kinda screwed up). So I moved out for college and had no car :(. that really sucked, but I could borrow the Ponticrap Sunfire whenever I wanted on week-ends. Ends up I had saved enough money (5K$ about) to buy me a used CRX or a used Golf, ends up Dad didn't want me spending a bunch of money over 2 years, then having to junk it, then buy another and so on. So he told me he'd lend me up to 15K$ to get a new car. Choice was limited, wanted Elantra, but insurrance was a major factor, so I got my beloved 1.6 DOHC Accent. I love it, I really do! Can't wait till I can get it kickin' as much under the hood as inside the car (1500$ of stereo mods in it).!!!

Well I had a 93 Geo Storm and well it wasnt the best car out there hehe but it ran good....well my job requires me to drive everyday(not too much b/t 1-80 miles maybe) a day so I had to get a car, sold the Geo for 1500..and went to a dealership here in my town, my credit SUCKS so they said no. SO I drove to Columbus(my friend did actually bc I had no car) and went to a dealership and I said well with my credit what CAN I get and he said this this that and this and I looked at the Accent...I really liked the blue one but instead my friend said no get the black one so I did hehe( i HATE black cars, unless they are clean) so I drove home with it that night she had 2 miles on here in Sept of 00 now in Sept 01 she only has 12,XXX I love this car and Hyundai has been great to me. Theyve called at least 6 times in the past year making suyre everything is ok and such...my next car in a few years is either gonna be a Subaru WRX or maybe another Hyundai who knows!!

Thanks

I purchased my first car in June of 1997, it was a 1991 Plymouth Colt 100E 4 door with the 3-spd auto and the 91 hp double barrel carb 1.5L(Canada kept the carb a year longer than the U.S.) Sure it was relatively slow in acceleration and it topped out at 172 km/h, but it would eat up gravel and snow and mud roads and ask for more. I spent many hours driving around in the snow and I can tell you where every unpaved twisty road is in my county. That car was so predictable, it always did exactly what I asked it to. Too bad I got tired of repairing the old thing, I miss it a lot. I went to the Hyundai dealer in Oct 2000 to see the new Elantra, but the Accent Gsi caught my eye instead, and so I bought it. It is a wonderful little car and I do believe I am on my way to loving yet another little Korean import. But the one area the Gsi is weak is its rally abilities. Those street tuned tires were so limiting last winter it hurt. This winter I am buying snow tires, then I will have no complaints about my Accent at all.

Is there a sweeter sound than a high-revving engine?
