For all who want to make their custome air intakes for ONLY a 2001 this is the explanation, and pictures will be coming soon. I ordered my camera from $%#% best buy and they are taking longer to ship that than ALL my parts for the car.

Here is the list of things to buy. SHould max out at about 100 bux for a good setup. NO BS setups, or WAI's.

Parts:
from Auto Parts, Motorcycle Parts, Car Parts, Truck Accessories & Parts, Auto Accessories - JC Whitney
1 - 180* mandrel bent aluminized pipe for 8.99 Inner Diameter: 2 3/8"
2 - 45* mandrel bent aluminized pipe for 5.99 Inner Diameter: 2 3/8"
Your straight from JCWHITNEY!! if you are hungry for parts get a turbo flow muffler or something i dont know!! :devious:

listen to some sweet techno like DJ Tiesto - Wings of Love while you do this, cause it is the s@%.

OK, more stuff youll need
4 - Silicone Couplings (RED) 2 1/2"
6 - Metal Reducing Clamps youll figure the right size out, get them at the plumbing store.
just take your pipes when they come in and make sure they will fit over the silicone coupling. BE PATIENT...the salesperson will think your nuts. its OK they are stupid not you.

you can get the couplings at :
http://www.phase2motortrend.com/phase2motorsports/silcoupstrai.html
going to be an excellent site when its finished. i got my parts within 3 days overseas in the bahamas:p pretty good i must say.

Now you must remove your entire air intake system. (stock)

I must warn you though, you must either have the tools or know someone who does to do this job. Cut the 180* pipe at the center curve point at an angle that suits how you would like your intake to go.

Paint all pipes in a high gloss, high heat colour and do a decal where you would like to have your name or whatever on the pipe.
Now you must also buff this paint job. nice. ok. now you need to drill a hole the size of the vacuum tubing from the original intake and plug it in to the piping. use the coupling if you like. whichever you prefer. it has to be there though, the rockers must be evacuated of air as you drive.

Connect the now 90* stretched pipe out to fit the 45*'s in the direction of the lower front of the left wheel under the battery, it WILL FIT, place the intake on the end and you are good to go. If you dont understand my explanation blame it on BEST BUY< they are assholes for taking this long. BUt anyways, the car is responding much better, gas mileage is actually up three miles per gallon, and engine compartment heat around or near the filter and pipe dropped by ten degrees, this is ONLY because i cut an extra blow off pipe and had it blow via a computers power supply fan onto the engine block. so its doing a good job now. BUT I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS, i am a CET, i knew what to do, so dont be bold and do this. Anyways, if you dont like this idea, you can have fun trying to fit a civic CAI on this car, but you wont have as much fun as you think.:) moving onto headers now:) and CUSTOM EXHAUST. flex pipe here i come. and hey accentmanga, thanks for the idea by the way.

This is a damn good how-to, so I'm making it a sticky.

BTW guys, he means this is ONLY for the 1.6L DOHC engine, or accents overseas that have MAP sensors. If you have a MAF sensor, you can almost follow these directions, however you should keep the stock MAF-->TB intake piping and only replace the piping between the MAF and filter.

Read what I said about the cars with MAF sensors.

what tools will you need to bend and weld the pipes? also name the other tools required to make this job possible for everyday average people who might not now a person in a shop or carry the tools needed<-ME!

thanks:eek:

I'm sorry, but why do you need to know how to weld? You need 2 180 degree bend "u" pipes (they look like a U), a hacksaw or dremel tool, rubber hose connectors, hose clamps, and a cone air filter. Order the piping from JC Whitney or Summit Racing.

You cut the piping so that you can run piping all the way from the throttle body to the fenderwell. That means cut the U pipes in half. That means a straight pipe out with a 90 degree bend toward the front of the car, straight pipe out over the transmission, a 90 degree bend down, more straight pipe, a 90 degree bend into the fenderwell and enough of a straight pipe to reach into the fenderwell. You'll have to cut the lining of the fender with the dremel so the pipe can get through Slap the filter on the end thats in the fenderwell, use the rubber couplings to hold it all together and use one more to attach to the throttle body. The TB's opening needs a 2.5" coupling.

Here's what the finished product should look somewhat like:

Thanks to Big Al, this is his engine bay. Before you ask, the strut bar is from HDK.

If you cant figure this out, well I guess your retarded, lol. This isnt a very hard mod to do, its pretty self explanatory.

One more thing: While you're at Pep Boys getting your cone filter, get a cheap crankcase breather filter. The one from APC will fit right onto the stock PCV hose.

this is for only 2001??do you think this can apply to the 2002 also?im going to try it during my vacation.....so plz reply soon so i can order the parts and etc.

My instructions are specific to ANY Hyundai that has a MAP sensor. Read my first post in this thread for what to do with cars that have a MAF sensor.i.e. ANY US spec hyundai that is not a 02+ elantra, 03+ 4cyl tiburon, or 2001+ Accent GS (GSi in Canada), GT, or GL).

Yes my engine is the 1.5L sohc 2002 model. All I did was run the pipe right after the sensor. This comming spring I'll make a complete pipe system to the throttle body, its just to damn cold now. :( Anyways GOTO THIS WEB PAGE. The parts list is cheap, and the labor is as easy as 1 2 3 and a monkey could do it. Read the instructions and apply it to your car!!!! Don't get confused when it says del sol cause anyone can cut a bent pipe to where they need the bends and run it. So read up and hopefully this will answer any questions! Complete with pictures

Does acrylic latex high gloss paint block heat? I am not sure what the Engine Enamel paint is made out of, but I chose 1500 degree paint for my pipes just like the instructions said to do. Cause if the latex paint doesn't block heat, why waste time making a cold air intake that isn't going to block the heat.

i have a bypassvalve.if i didnt then i'd have 2 couplings...but it is still less then 4 so id ont think it answers your question:puzzled:

EDIT: didnt mean to double post but you HP mods should look in to allowing authors of posts and topics to delete their stuff like on HA

is it nice and cold behind the radiator?

#19 ·
are you sure its 2 3/8 for both 180 mandrel bent and 45 mandrel bent pipes??b/c i cant find 2 3/8 for the 45 degree one....and also the 180 degree is not 8.99, but its 13.29!!(big difference)are you sure both are 2 3/8" diameter??

#20 ·
I used 2.5" and paid 23.95 from JC Whitney. 180 Degree U Bent pipe and then just cut the angles from the pipe that you need. Easy. 1 Rubber coupling to hold the pipe to the sensor. Don't forget your ceramic paint, and filter! And yes behind the radiator isn't bad since it is radiator that blows cool air on the engine :D

I had a friend machine an adaptor from a piece of alum. block (perks of being a machinist) it slid right into my M.A.F. and I couldn't have gotten better results now I'll just have to cut up some pipe to get the cold-air. I've got a Tsudo BMW W.A.I. now.
