This is my first post, sorry for making it so longwinded!
So my parents got a new car about a year ago and they asked me if I wanted their old 98' Accent. The car isnt much to look at, the seats were stained and ripped and it had some dents, rust spots and the paints peeling badly. I thought to myself my wife isnt going to like this car at all 😂 so I almost said no. But then I remembered it had a manual 5 speed transmission, which = FUN!... Also I commute about 80 miles round trip per day for work so I could use a good little commuter car...Hmm 🤔
As soon as I drove this car to work ( I commute over a windy mountain pass every day) I fell in love with this car! It has some pep, (must be the close ratio transmission)...So I drove Zippy for about a year and during that time I discovered this forum and I instantly started looking for ways to improve performance. Once I found out about the Beta swap I always thought to myself if the 1.5 ever goes out on Zippy I want to do this swap!..Well fast forward a few months and now Zippy is using alot of oil...I mean like burning a quart of oil every couple days!...So that is where I am now, I've been doing the research and gathering parts, I now have a 2.0 out of a 2000 Elantra, and I am waiting for some more parts to come in this week.
One thing I noticed about this forum is that it has really good info, but alot of the threads are from the early 2000's and the links are broken and/or the pictures are long gone. So my plan is to document this swap along with the parts I use and the part #'s...Hopefully somebody will find the info or pics helpful down the road. Here is one pic of Zippy for now, and I will update this thread as my parts come in and I make some progress.
1.5 is already out, here is a pic of the 2.0 getting dropped in minus the clutch for mock up & to check engine clearance on the fenderwell/frame and to figure out what I am going to do for the passenger engine mount.
