I am new to the forum, and have been searching for a while on here for information about engine performance swap options. I have a 98 elantra that I want to do a budget performance build.
that'll depend on what you define as 'budget' build and what your goals are. thanks for taking the time to do some of your own searching, thats unusual.
I was wondering if swapping cams from a different beta engine would help.
not that i know of. all the cams are the same for all 2.0L beta engines. if you find something else that fits with a higher lift and duration, let us know. even getting a shop to grind down the journals is ok, but nothing really seems to fit that i know of. i'd happily do it to my accent.
I was also wondering how the 2.0 was stroked (i.e. via crankshaft or pistons and rods).
what are you talking about? stroke is a product of crankshaft throw. conrods are sized to simply support that throw with regards to overall dimensions.
hyundai engines are generally designed as a 'box' engine or stroke roughly equal to piston diameter.
Also wondering if there is an injector swap option and or throttle body swap option. I am trying to keep this almost a strictly junk yard build. Please let me know any information you might have. Thanks.
injectors are upgraded when your fuel requirements surpass their flow capability. doing injectors before is outright dumb, because now you have to worry about changing your fuel map to support different flow characteristics. its unlikely you will hit your injector limits with an NA build. the rule of thumb is about 10% extra capacity for injectors, some are more.
as for a throttle body it is a great idea, i'd find a similar hyundai TB off say maybe one of the SUV's with a larger engine, and then find a way to adapt it. get creative, adapter plate, whatever. there isn't anything that simply bolts up that i am aware of. for a budget build getting the TB bored out is just insane.
